Picasso's first venture into motorcycle design wasn't the success he'd
    hoped for.

  4. Far Side, innit? And in any case, I think you're muddling things up with
Glen Baxter (he of The Impending Gleam).

I guessed the sidepanel would give it away. The Yanks also got
the J in "California Burgundy", i.e. that pink/magenta colour
(which still looks great even today).

  7. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember
    (The Older Gentleman) saying
    something like:

My mate Gus has just sold a J regd Canadian import GT750J in that pukey
pink colour. I had a 1973 GT750L back in the winter of 1980/81 when I
was 18, it was metalflake orange.

Well, just to show how un-sad I am. I only knew it was a suzook,
from the tank. I knew it was a GT from the writing on the side panels
and I reckoned it was a kettle from the exhauxt collector combined
with the timing case cover. As eny fule know it was clearly an import
but being of sound mind and body... I had no idea of the year or model
version of the thing. Not like those *weirdos*.

Either that, or he's just gone that birthday card too far.

Quite a few of 'em still around. Better handling than the kettle too.

  14. I knew it was an early GT750, and I knew which model, but the fact that
it was a US model - that escaped me, I'm glad to say.

My sisters boyfriend had a GT250 in the same colour. What a porky 250 it
    was too.

  16. I *hated* the old GT250. Peaky, thirsty, ill-handling, uncomfortable,
    vibratory pile of shite.

    (The Older Gentleman) struggled
    to ejaculate:
I'm surprised. The obvious indicator (sic) of US origin to me is the
presence of side-mounted reflectors. Stand out a mile, they do.
I'm not sure of that, either.

    They were shit.

    I had a 1976 GT250A in red. It was a thoroughly detestable motorcycle. I
sold it for 100 quid to my mate Flid[1], who rode it all over Europe.
Fucking thing gave me endless problems in the 2 months I owned it, he
did over 10K miles in a year with nothing ever going wrong.

[1] So called because he interbred gerbils as an experiment when he was
13/14, to see what mutations occurred. Lots did.
