Seeing the thread below linking to Motorcycles of the 20th century got me
thinking back on the scooters and bikes I have owned. The very first was
one of these abominations http://www.ozebook.com/az/dkr.jpg Anyone start on
anything worse than this? It was clapped out when I bought it for £5. I
had it for about a year until enough bits had fallen off to make it totally
unroadworthy. Then I took to riding across fields until I hit one rock too
many and wrecked it completely. I dragged the remains to a nearby quarry
and dropped it in. The fall was probably the highest speed it ever reached.

    Good Lord...

No, I think you may be onto a winner with that. I wonder if it was named
    after the Boulton-Paul Defiant?

That was a fucking death-trap as well.

I think my worst POS bike would be... Hmm... Toss up between the C15 and
the Bantam really. Ooh look! A theme develops.

I'll raise you a Honda Novio moped that I had briefly when 16... or the
Ariel 3 I had as a teenager, and which I wrecked on purpose a failed attempt
to build a go-kart... or even my grandads last steeds... a Batavus moped
swiftly followed by some kind of 70s CZ350

Yeah, we should probably disqualify any British bike made between...
    Ooh, let's see... 1965 and 1995?

Purely in the interests of "Everyone knows they were crap, let's pull a
few others out of the closet", like.

I bought a CZ when I was 16 from the bloke that owned the local shop, it was
in several boxes so with lots of help from my dad I eventually got it
together and decided to take it over the fields for its maiden voyage, after
lots of kicking over and one huge backfire I got it running... <set scene>
Me on CZ supersteed and all my mates stood round watching, I rev the nuts
off it and dump the clutch and perform some spectacular triple salco
manoeuvre over the handlebars... the engine was running backwards!

BSA Bantam 175. I set the timing to TDC coz I knew no better at 13. It had
been starting OK on the kickstarter once it was warm, so there I was, keen
to impress a gurlie with my amazing skills on a bike. Kick, kick, kick,
    bang! IT RUNS!.

Clutch in, first gear, rev the nuts off it, lean forward and dump the clutch
    to spin the back wheel.

    The engine was running backwards.

Bike shot off backwards, nuts collided with the front mudguard, thighs and
knees hit the bars and I went face down into a lump of horseshit, screaming
like a likkle baby due to the nut agony and battered kneecaps.

Needless to say she was so impressed she had to sit down. To laugh. Loudly.
    Cruelly. Mockingly.

    So much for RTprotoB.

Much as I liked it, and still miss it in some weird way, my MTX125 was an
utter POS. It overheated regularly and the brakes didn't really.

As a first bike? No. My first was a Yamaha DT100; excellent thing.

Worst bike? Honda CB750 sohc - a dire experience.

    TMack composed the following;:
First ever bike was a Bantam, or a Honda step-through, though I can't
remember much of either, I was about 5.

First legal 'proper' road bike was a brand new R reg (1977 I think)
    Kawasaki KH 250, on L plates. ;)

Worst bike was a Kawasaki Z750 twin. Horrible thing, the engine of which
went into a racing sidecar outfit for a season and did rather better than
it did as a road bike .. ;)

Heh, somebody's coming round to have a look at it on Sunday[1]. So I
might have to do some work on it before then. Its literally not been
    touched since Frankfurt.

[1] They used to have one ages ago, so its a nostalgia thing.
