watching Eastenders/Corrie/Brookie?

Apart from the fact that common folk watch telly, and intellectuals
listen to the radio, of course.

I think you've got the argument inside out. Eastenders et al. is
/supposed/ to appeal to the lowest common denominator Sun-reading

Yes, its still a soap. No, I don't think it's designed to be highbrow.

 

While listening to the radio in my workshop/garage, I've just made Jane
a gadget to put her garden string on with a cutting blade built in.

(I must get out more)

 

it is, but I think the main difference between it and the TV soaps are
that it is done fairly tastefully.
