    When are we leaving?

    I liked this.
    "Packing a paunch

The leather jackets will also hide a fair acreage of paunch because the
age of the average Harley-Davidson owner is 46, eight years older than
the average rider of a Japanese or German bike. "

  4. I mis-read the photo caption of "The company was founded in a shed by two
friends" as "The company was founded making sheds...."

However, the final paragraph sums it up really "In Milwaukee this weekend,
there will be a celebration of roaring defiance - by men who don't want to
grow old and by a company that refused to die." It's a tragedy that there's
no such companies left in the UK that can produce idiosyncratic products
with the right market appeal and quality :(

I don't know, what about the company that makes those nice little three
wheelers, you know, the folding Zimmer frames for the elderly??

Heh. There was in article in today's Independent about Harleys. Made
me fair chuckle, it did. I can't find it in their web site though.

    LOL.

It's all true though... I helped out on a stand at one of their rallies down
this way, and it was full of middle aged Dennis Hopper wannabes'...

  14. Hmmmm, I was'nt really thinking of domestic goods as such, but Dyson are, in
my mind at least, a wholly British company given their Malaysian
manufacturing base. Fundamentally this country has lost the ability to make
things - our nation's economy appears to have shifted to now rely upon
services and imported products. I'm afraid, as Napoleon foretold, we've
    become a nation of shop-keepers. :(

    Bollocks!

We're very good at making things. We just can't make them competitively due
to the ridiculous government meddling and restrictive legislation.

Like you'd be prepared to pay more for everything to show your commitment
    for such things?

...I don't think so. Like most BHaLC you harp on about workers rights but
search out the best deals you can find. I'd take you more seriously if you
boycotted products from countries with poor records on workers rights.

BHaLC? I think Champ is more likely to give you a number for that before he
    gives me one!

I'd take you more seriously if you
I don't eat McDonalds on principal, but that's not for their human rights
    issues.

I also refuse to buy stuff from Israel - not because of the way they treat
their workers, but everyone else in the region.

Nice try... but businesses are run much more efficiently than they were
before. They are, in general managed better. I go for the best deal I can
get so much of my machinery is Italian or German. I have no problem with
where anything comes from or how many small foreign children died making it.
    errr... Unions?
