Ta, and have a Black Sheep for me, I recall their dark ale (stout?) being
    rather more-ish.

  2. Oh there's heaps of them. Yeah, had a Black Sheep or two. Jenning
Sneck Lifter is the one that really appeals to me at the moment,
    yummmm.

Just goes to show that the poms CAN make decent beer, they just keep it
    well hidden...

  4. I've always been a fan of English ales, they are just hard to get hold
    of in Australia.

I did some work with Edward Theakston in the late 90s when he was in
Tasmania training bar staff to understand the difference between ales,
stouts, etc, and our ever-present lagers. I was also a member of HOPS
(Hobart Organoleptic PractionerS) which was run by Willie Simpson (the
beer writer for the Australian and author of a few tomes on beer and
brewing). They were interesting meetings, he'd gring in head brewers
from around the country to talk about different brews and we'd have
tastings and comps for guessing which brew was which, etc.

Sir Jeffles brought a few nice ales over for me to try when they were
over in 1999 as well. Add on top of that the Kerry (my ex) works for
Boags and I did a lot of work for the brewery (ever want a tour of the
Launceston brewery, I know the place like the back of my hand, I've
spent days on end in there shooting the brewery process) then beer has
sort of been more than just something I drink too much of in the pub
    :)

I'm like a kid in a lolly shop over here at the moment . . .

    )
Sounds fair... I have at least one rellie over there who was want to go on
about "real ales", most of which I found undrinkable, full of hops and
tasted like over-brewed tea, which probably says something about the poms
    and their tea...

And seeing as the likes of Theakston (and Black Sheep) are unavailable or
horrendously expensive oop north (queensland style) I've reverted to
Coopers (although I'm on a promise for a carton of James Squires porter)

    enviously yours,

    Bill

He once sent me a lovely bottle of heather ale (Froach?) once. Still have the empty bottle here somewhere.
Cat and I thouroughly enjoyed our tour when on our honeymoon. :)
I'm also immensly jealous. Tell Sir J. I'll more than likely give him a call on Chrissy day if his number is still the same.
