And they all talk to each other these days - when it suits them to - so
you can't fib your way around it.
That's a sound reason. I stuck with Carole Nash because they
classified Vectra, Bandit and Ural as "Modern Classic" and dropped the
premiums to less than 150 quid a pop with sensible excesses and the
usual extras included. I'd never just renew, though, they seem to
yield quite easily to a bit of chiselling.

A foot in the axe wound, then take the bike somewhere else and get a decent
    quote.

A cracked fairing in need of repairing/welding/painting shouldn't cost much
more than a couple of hundred, then add in a gear lever and indicator and
the most it should cost would be 300.

Well, the kid's ok with that one.
He wasn't involved in the accident, he was sitting in the house watching
telly... His BIKE was involved in an accident, so he can truthfully say "no"
    to that one.

That's been going on for years, it happened to me after someone ran
into my car when I was a student, and the 3rd party admitted liability
and also his insurer paid out 100% ("You drive places where accidents
    happen", was the explanation.)

Insurance is basically a form of gambling, and like the casino -- ultimately
the house always wins. There's no such thing as a bad year for insurers,
they just hike the rates the following year.

You're wrong you know. Tell that to the Lloyds syndicates

Vehicle insurance across the UK has risen over 50% according to R4 recently.

gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:
It don't work like that... I was 30-odd miles away from my car when it
was reversed into. The blind bat's insurer coughed, but it hits my
premium more than a brace of photos.

That happened to me when some twat reversed into my bike while it was parked
    outside the library.

It took some cost in phone calls to get my NCB put back where it was
    supposed to be.

The insco said my NCB was cancelled because the other party *MIGHT* counter
    claim.

    ORLY?

I was happily surfing the internet at my employer's expense when their
lawyer reversed into my car, using a company pool car. Lawyer coughed
and our employer's insurer coughed for repairs. My car was booked into
Nationwide under the name of Pegasus Insurance. My insurer wasn't
involved and apart from a telephone conversation with the fleet manager
I had nothing to do with the affair.

When asked if I have been involved in an incident on proposal forms I
answer NO. I don't think I'm misrepresenting the facts.

I've just been on the Admiral site looking at a multicar quote. So 50y/o and
York with clean licence (hahaha how did that happen) and clean sheet. For
four cars. £1659 *before* application of no claims with a spare driver. The
911 comes out highest but at £578.92. The MR2 import which is usually a
pricey little fucker £391.77. The Aero and a little Merc are below £300.

Add in No claims - £1356.86. £340 a car Comp with commuting 12K p/a each.
    Bonus protected.

    I payed £1250 p/a just for the 911 and MR2 in 2008.

    Tell me insurance isn't affordable......

Oh, it is, if you look around/give them some grief. From my other post:

"I stuck with Carole Nash because they classified Vectra, Bandit and
Ural as "Modern Classic" and dropped the premiums to less than 150 quid
a pop with sensible excesses and the usual extras included.

Apols for the formatting, the software apparently doesn't like quoting.

    Who did? Personal circumstances, innit?

That is, it is to *you*, a 50-year old with plenty of no claims who can
    afford over £1300pa.

It's certainly *not* affordable for a very large number of people,
which I guess is why there are so many un-insured cars on the road.

I think we should have toll type gates in cities, streaming the cars into 8
lanes with gates. ANPR on each, trapping all uninsured cars.

My point was each car was under £300 except the 911.

Go via her insurance & let them sort it out. My brother's FiL knocked
over my bike and as soon as he saw the estimate for ~£900 gave me his
    insurance details.

1993 MR2 G-Ltd import day policy from Aviva. Well, not one day but several.
    £11/day. I can't fault it.

I shall be enjoying it this weekend, couple of years since it was used.
Sparkly new brake calipers and discs. Actually everything mechanical it
    needed.
I shall decide Monday whether to Nige it out or pass it to Beav for
"fettling", not that it needs much.

It's such incredibly good zero money motoring, particularly that bit between
    6000 and 8000 rpm
