    Hi,

I'm considering to go up to Winton for a Cornering School ride day.

About how long is the ride from Melbourne, is it about two hours? I live in
Northcote, which is north of the CBD.

Any maps anywhere on how to get there? Is there any [cheap] accomodation
close to the track? A good track for a 250?

    Thanks,
    Jørgen :)

Allow 2 1/2 Hours for fuel / drink stop

Maps?? Winton is 4kms North of Benalla. Take the 2nd exit from Melb & it's
    on the right.

Benalla is the closest place for accomodation - There are a few Caravan
    Parks there. + cheap(ish) motor inn's

Fuel IS available at the track.

Tight in sections with HUGE ripple strips. Some sections you'll love & other
sections are the point & squirt types of corners.
If it rains - be careful of the puddle into water tower cnr ( after the long
    LH Sweeper )

Of the track days I did on the R6, Winton was the most enjoyable. It's very
tight and I love tight tracks. You'll be well knackered if you ride up and
back. If you can't trailer the bike up, definitely stay the night at the
pub in Benalla ($25ish I think)

Getting to the track is dead simple if you go the boring way. That is straight up the Hume, take the
2nd Benalla exit and turn right up over the overpass. It's well sign posted as a Benalla and Winton
exit. A km or so down the road there are signs pointing right, up a side road saying effectively,
this way to Winton. There are about 2-3 buildings at this corner, and they're the only buildings
about, so easy to spot. Up a short blast there and the track is on your left.

There are far more exciting roads to get there though if you're wanting to have some motorcycling
fun before even getting to the track. They also add a fair bit of time to the trip.

    the trip.

Thanks for the info all - Dale, Jules, Fwoar.

It sounds like Winton will be great fun on my bike. And that it's
approximately half an hour farther away than Phillip Island [given that I'm
in Northcote]. The PI trip didn't upset me too much so I might ride in on
the morning, but I'll see what I feel like at the time.

I'm doing a day of performance driving at Sandown the day before, it'll make
    for an interesting weekend. :)

Today I'm getting rid of my "performance" pipe and putting a stock back on,
which, although it looks good and adds a tiny bit more oomph, just is too
noisy for the power that comes out of my bike. I'll be able to hear just the
engine then, which will much less wanky.
