Must be related to Valentino? He seems to go through a sort of
pray-come-worship all crouched up before he sets off on the thing?

His oil pump had been pronounced dead and friends had gone ahead

    Great report all the same

    ...just of the run home.

Myself, Nev, Jo, Moike, Marty and TB all set the rally ..around... 8.30 but
re-grouped at the bakery for brekkie before leaving for Melbourne by 9.30. A
straightforward run saw us in Ouyen for a quick fuel stop. Then a few drops
of rain left so by the time everyone broke out the wets, the rain had
    passed.

TB turned left after Ouyen to head across to Bendigo, the rest of us rolled
ever southwards. 15k later, we hit a squally shower which looked like it
might have heralded something worse. Fortunately it cleared quickly. Passed
the Police on the outskirts of Birchip without incident but then found him
on the other side of town. He must have doubled back through the back blocks
to beat us there but once, again, we angellically sailed on through.

Perhaps he didn't bother us after that becasue the sky was getting blacker
and blacker to the south west. 25k out of Donald, we copped a hiding from
fierce cross winds and heavy rain. Luckily, the rain passed after about
15min. Shortly after (while still raining) we came around a curve to the
sight of Goaty having a God moment, crouched beside his bike and appearing
to pray. His oil pump had been pronounced dead and friends had gone ahead
    into Donald to get help.

Goaty, you should note, help appeared to involve sitting in a warm dry pub
having lunch. It seemed such a good idea, we did it ourselves.

After waiting patiently for Goaty to catch up (see Moikes photos), we headed
off South again. We passed thru St Arnaud, then cross country through
Bealiba, Dunolly, Maldon then Daylesford. There must have been an impressive
storm on the outskirts of Maldon, trees and bits of trees were scattered
across paddocks. Glad we didn't get to ride through there when that was
happening. Great back roads, good scenery and a limited law enforcement
population. A quick refuel at Daylesford, then across to Ballan and back
down the Western to Melbourne. The cross wind was a tail wind for the last
section which made life a little more pleasant.

By the time we hit the outskirts, marty had got ahead in the traffic, Nev
and Jo were somewhere behind and Moike turned off for fuel.

    and then there was one.....

OK, the magic Keith has reported back. The nylon impeller in the oil
pump is stuffed. The parts will not break the bank. However, Kawasaki,
instead of making this part easy to get at with a bolt and a washer,
have it pinned into place from inside the engine casing, so ....

it's time to (all together now) split the cases! Fsck! Fsck! Fsck! Fsck!
Fsck! Fsck! Fsck! Fsck! Fsck! Fsck! Fsck! Fsck! Fsck! Fsck! Fsck! Fsck!
    Fsck! Fsck! Fsck! Fsck!

This is not going to be nice.

On the positive side, he says no damage to the engine due to lack of lube!

    Cheers
    John
