    [snip, boorish bit]

My current commute is only a puny 63 earth miles each way. Muffs and
heated grips plus HG Goretex with pikey looking quilted zip ins (may
be "Voyager") and Daytona Goretex boots do it for me on the 'Duc.
This after a lifetime of wearing a one piece waterproof over leathers
and fleeces and just gritting my teeth. The 'K' with heated grips and
    barndoor is even cosier.

Waterproof gloves are rare. I have some made by Swift, that have kept
my fingers dry for several years, but muffs or even waterproof overmitts
are better. Plan your petrol stops for the end of your journey or you
will be putting wet hands back into your gloves. That French outfit:
Baglux make nice big muffs. Big drawback with muffs is that they press
on your clutch at speed. Solution: either make a stay from 3mm steel
rod and cable ties, or use trailie stylee 'brush guards' to keep them
    off your levers.

What may be much more important is decent lights. Trying to maintain a
decent speed on black tarmac, in the rain, is exhausting and frightening
with normal 60/55W lights. I've got 130/90W in the BMW, but I'm not sure
I trust the Duc' electrics with that current, so I run a 100/80W bulb.
The Duc' doesn't have space for one of those dipping H4 HIDs, but it
may be worth exploring with the K. I could get incandescant discussing
bike reviews that pay no attention to lighting! Why does the seediest
little cage have better lights than a motorcycle? Grr.

Put 'brush guards' or home made stiffeners inside them to stop them
    pushing on your levers.

They fit. A fiddle to get in, but they fit.
However the set I got started to fail when you switched from full to
dipped beam. Not, really, what you wanted.

I'm currently awaiting the arrival of a set of PIAA driving lights which
I'll put on a switch so I can use them with dip, should I want.

    Right, thanks

HG Lobster Pathans have managed so far. I need a jacket with longer
    sleeves though.
    Good point
Hmm, fair point. The lights on the triple are, IMHO, shite.

I tried them once on a CX500 with similarly bad experiences. It doesn't
make wiping you visor and easier on the move either. The Assuan gloves
pretty much waived the need for such contraptions anyway

Well my B12 now has 2 x 5 3/4 inch Cibie H4's. Any good auto shop keeps
these (for Mini's). They are as good as any Cage short of the latest
    HID's.

In what way though? Goretex isn't more waterproof, it doesn't dry out
quicker and according to PV it doesn't go down the road well.

I'm really referring to the top half most recently. I have a pair of the
HG Voyager style Goretex trousers to wear over smart trews or jeans so
    that I have some armour.
The HG pvc stuff is quite heavy and doesn't flap at all. As I said I
leave it on the leather jacket, they go on and off as one.
I really must amend my manners.

Would you be interested in doing the NEC on Tuesday 31st?
I realise you are probably working.

The shop closes at 4pm on a Sunday and I got there are 4:05 pm. Guess
I've stalled forking out £250 for another week.

I've got one of them there Cruise GTX jackets. I've only had it a
while and it's not been used in very cold conditions yet (we haven't
had any) so I've not used it with the inner lining or with the
    detachable storm collar attached.

I can vouch for its waterproofness and it seems pretty well stitched
together. The array of different pockets (inc. waterproof inner and
outer ones) and the adjustment belt all seem good. The cuffs fit
    easily over my gloves.

Only time will really tell but at least the GORE-TEX has a 5 year
    guarantee.

    Probably true.

I still prefer to stay warm and dry on my bike and the cost is such a
small proportion of the total costs associated with biking.

Strangely enough I've decided to get rid of the car this year. I
reckoned the number of days when I decided to take the car last year was
so few that it wasn't worth it.

Don't know why everyones so worried about global warming, I'm quite
happy Scotland is going to be the new Riviera.

Minis have 7 inch Lucas headlights as standard. I think you might have
headlights the same size as Capri Mk3s and Vauxhall Magnums had.

I once gave into my fandom of pieness on a regular basis. These days,
though, I am some 7 stone less of a man
