Windows XP Firewall

  1. Help.
One of our remote outstations runs XP, and one of our chaps recently did the
good old windows update thing, which has prolly stuck SP2 on.
The firewall seems to have become nactivated, which means I can't get in via
PC Anywhere, so it looks like I've got to drive to site to disable it.

Can anyone tell me how to do this.

    TIA

Right click on the "My Network Places" icon on the desktop and choose
"Properties", this will open the network connections configuration window.

    For each network connection ...

Right click on the icon for it and select "Properties"
    Go to the "Advanced" tab
Click on the "Settings" button in the "Windows Firewall" frame
Turn it off and click "OK"

    Job done.

  3. Cheers for that Andy, although you disappoint me slightly.
When I re-read my post (having sent it) I thought the first response would
have been along the lines of "get in car, insert key in ignition and turn
    etc"

Anyway, off to Oxford for me at some stage today, it looks like, which is
quite nice actually, as I am expecting a visit from a psycho decorator who
is demanding money with menaces, so I could be "out".

    Ho hum

If it's any consolation, I did type in a response on those lines and
    then thought[1] before[2] posting it.

[1] Obviously don't belong on UKRM
    [2] This clinches it, really

  7. I honestly don't know where we get these fucking tradesmen from. The only
certainty is that when it all goes pete tong it's usually me left to pour
    oil on the troubled waters.

Anyway, been to Oxford, have AndrewR'd the outstation and all is well.

If I can now get through the rest of the day without having threats of
physical violence I will have a happy weekend (mostly fixing haynets in
    stables).

BTW, we must finally validate the SuperFOT at some stage.

  8. Erm, not exactly, seems a colleague placed an order with said hard man and
agreed to some very ambitious payment terms.
Whilst I have no problem with the bloke dilligently seeking payment, I do
object to this being done in a threatening manner, particularly as the work
was not on one of my projects, and the only reason I have become involved is
because I am a cheque signatory (the other fuckers have buggered off on
    holiday).
Indeed, will contact you in due course
