Will Wayne get back in the saddle?

WAYNE Gardner received an unusual but flattering invitation when he
returned to the scene of some of his great achievements - the annual
Suzuka Eight-Hour enduro in Japan - last weekend.

Four-time winner Gardner, aka "Mr 100 Per Cent", was stunned when his
Honda hosts sounded him out for an eight-hour race return next year.

"They asked me if I'd be interested in riding with Freddie Spencer,"
    Gardner, 47, said.

"I told them I'd consider it."

Before any decision is made, Gardner wants to ride a modern race bike
and test the Honda MotoGP machine. There's also the matter of breaking
the news to fiancee Toni Atkinson, whom he marries in Byron Bay in
    October.

Fifteen years after his last appearance at Suzuka, Gardner was there
to help celebrate the race's 30th anniversary. He took a swift demo
ride aboard the Honda that he and Mick Doohan rode to eight-hour
    victory in 1991.

    So is a comeback a possibility? "Not a comeback but a one-off
opportunity to have fun again," he said.

This year's race was won by Team Yoshimura Suzuki's Yukio Kagayama and
Kousuke Akiyoshi. Australia's Jamie Stauffer and Norick Abe finished
    ninth

He might have to lose 20 kilos to fit into his leathers (if he does he could
let me know how he did it).

Well I'll be sans tonsils in a few weeks time and 2 weeks of eating mush
may assist in shedding a few kg's.

There's a silver lining to everything <Pollyanna grin>. For me it was
complications after having wisdom teeth removed. Hard to eat when you
    can't open your mouth!

  13. Hope not, he is nothing but a big head egotistical bastard
Never forget the day down at the island when he was coming into a left
hander somewhere near the final lap and he kicked out at another rider
(Doohan?) who was trying to pass him.
You could almost read Gardners lips yelling at him to **** off because this
is my win as he tried to kick him away.

Oy you two, watch yourselves - remember that she who wields the beer bottle
    rules the world.

Are you absolutely certain you'll always know what's in the Coopers bottle I
bring you, Johno dear? <smiling sweetly and thinking of restaurant tales
about vengeful waiters and cranky chefs>

Besides, I only said it was hard to EAT without opening your mouth - didn't
say anything about TALKING, heh heh!

    evil betty practising her ventriloquism
skills - specially for Johno and Boxer
(and no it doesn't mean sticking my
hand up anybody's, um, shirt - eeewwww!)

I had a "big one" in 1982 and after 5 debilitating months in hospital I put
my back-brace on and tried a big adventure; walking to the shop 150m up the
    road.
I made it 20mins later after having to hang onto the fence and pretty-much
pull myself along for the last few meters..
When I stumbled into the shop, pale, sweating, breathless and about to
    collapse, the shopkeeper greeted me with "I haven't seen you for a while;
    YOU LOOK GREAT!!"
