Will Gas Additive Carb Cleaner Damage Carburetor Diaphragms?

What is the life-span of these diaphragms? I just bought a '81 GS850L
(65K miles) which needed all 4 diaphragms (BTW, I got an excellent deal
on 4 used ones in perfect condition for $80 total from a salvage
yard). Some were in worse condition than others. I'm just wondering if
it is not recommended to use the gas additive type carb cleaner in
carburetors that have these rubber/cloth diaphragms.
    Thanks for any advice, Mark

  2. No idea, not being an industrial chemist. Experiment with some carb
cleaner on an old dead carb?

There again, I can't imagine anyone selling something as carb cleaner
    when it actually destroys carbs.....

  3. You're not going to hurt anything, by my experience. Just don't touch
the diaphram if you've got any kind of petro products on your hands.
Those diaphrams will expand(stretch) to the point that they won't fit in
that little groove on the top of the carburetor.
