Strange back end wibblies had me looking at the rear end again.
Noticed that the spring had shifted sideways up onto the edge of the cotters
    that supposedly hold it central.
Clump with a copper mallet and a squirt of WD40 sorted the issue. Alls fine
in the corners now and even less wobbles on the white lines and banding.
Wonder why it shifted in the first place?

Because it's a Pile Of Shit BMW of course, failures are a way of life.
Sell it and the money-pit Gold Wing and buy a proper motorcycle.

    Strange that you mention that.
was considering EBaying the wing as it stands for around £3000 as a project
    etc.
With the dosh and a part ex I was considering summat a little better, like a
    newer Beemer mebbe.

I have only ridden one BMW and that was a 20yr old R80, the one with the
giant fairing, it was a barge and the brakes didn't work at all. Very
unpleasant and I wouldn't wish one on anyone.
