As I remember that cockhead who infested aus.cars and ausmoto a few
years back perpetually trying to convince us that he was a sodamichael
cop in a previous life also advocated the same approach. It was
probably the only vaguely sane thing that twit ever uttered.

  5. It's barely a 50/school zone along there.

    http://www.illawarramercury.com.au/...rs-speeding-before-crash-witness/1634353.aspx

    **********************************************

It is a 60 kph zone there, from Robson Street through

The school zone you refer to stops between the cemetery and Robson Street
500 meters or so from the collision

And, regardless of what anyone says, the newspaper report states

"Witnesses to the crash, at the corner of Albert St and the Princes Hwy
about midday on Saturday, alleged the three motorcyclists involved were
speeding southbound on the Princes Hwy.

"A local driver was pulling out of Albert St (on to the Princes Hwy)," one
    man said.

"The bikes were flying and one of the bikes was up on one wheel."

He estimated their speed at about 150km/h.

Another witness said he heard the motorcycles allegedly revving at the
    traffic lights at Bellambi Lane.

"They were fanging it up the road," he said.

    "Then I heard: 'Bang, bang'."

Woonona man Ian Nicholas was in a Holden Rodeo ute turning on to the highway
from Albert St when the collision occurred.

Given all that witness report, it still shows that the 80 year old driver of
the ute apparently didn't look or see the bikes coming, as he pulled out of
Albert Street as the collision was at the intersection of Albert Street and
    the highway.

    <Sexist Rant>
Beware the lady driver in a big Merc. Her husband can afford it so she
    doesn't care.
The lady in the small Merc's husband had to hock the house, so she
    will be very careful.

I thought SMIDSY was an excuse, not something one did. What would I
    know though?

Or possibly that he looked, saw the bikes at a distance that he thought
it would be safe to pull out (based on a closing speed of approx 60kph)
and the bikes were actually travelling substantially faster than that.

It's fairly difficult to judge the oncoming speed of a vehicle that is
narrow like a motorbike and even more so for people not used to bikes.

We won't know what happened for a while, if ever.

there's a chance the driver could come back to life and explain?

well I think simple physics, skid marks and distance of bikes after
impact should assist with an explanation.

Personally I think it's perceived threat syndrome. The more you look like
you'll rip their head off and shit down their neck if they pull out in front
of you the less likely they are not to see you.

  12. All they have to do is for the coroner to roll the bodies over and check
    their skid marks

I saw a youtube clip of that somewhere. Maybe the issue was that
    POLICE was in another language.

You could always go to the extreme and ride a white BMW with a fairing with
    a

    motorbike
    "POLICY"

    sticker on it

Some years back a friend got pulled up in England on a black ex police
Triumph Saint with 'POLITE' on the fairing. They saw the funny side but
told him he had to remove it anyway.

  17. Good one but don't see why it should have to be removed
It is only sending a message that the bike rider is a polite person

Maybe the police were objecting to it not being stricly true. He was
only a polite person so long as no one pulled out in front of him. In
which case he would have ripped their bloody arms off.

In which case he'd have been guilty of impersonating a Polite Man.

How could they help? Please tell us what possible pattern of skidmarks
show that a drive has seen something BEFORE he's started moving?
