Probably either bridleway or a restricted byway?

It's a wire with special smoke vents, as I believe you discovered.

The bike wouldn't run if the dotted line connections weren't made as they
are all 12V feeds or ground connections.

They appear to be "virtual connections" rather than those made by a wire on
that actual route, just to give "clarity" on how items are powered. Look at
the Br wires, connected to a ground point. These don't need to be
physically connected to the *same* ground point, just anywhere on the frame
or engine. The person who drew the diagram seems to like having dotted
lines rather than more ground symbols. It's an odd style and not a
convention that I've seen used a lot.

As someone who is responsible for creating accurate schematics which describe
the true physical interconnections of circuits, I would just like to say that
this is the sort of thing that makes my blood boil. When you are trying to
diagnose a subtle behavior/problem in a circuit, 'simplifying' the circuit by
virtualizing earth (or any other signal/power node) connections is doing the
user of the schematic no favors at all, especially when the return path part
of the circuit is what you are trying to figure out.

Jesus H Christ that makes me mad.

I've come across that, too. Makes me want to strangle the dozy fucker
    who set it out.

  19. I don't see what the fuss is all about. It's a part of the tool kit and
the better technicians are those who demonstrate with consummate ease
their betterness by making best use of what is always inadequate.
Strangling, if a slowish death that can be played with is required, is
best reserved for the **** who designed that particular piece of shit in
the first place not the wannabe artist who can't sell his work on the open
market and opts for a career as a technical designer and persists in his
wrongly help opinions of his own genius by making abstract
representational drawings of what they think it should have been.
