Why oh, why?

Why is it that when I leave my bike unused for a couple of weeks I
need to bleed the brakes? It makes no sense to me. It's a 2002
Fireblade, not that it should matter.

    Cheers,

Im assuming it's had a fluid change in the last 8 years?

Yes. Immediately after I bought it (mmm... a couple of years ago) then
again, the first time it happened - over the Christmas hols. Came back
and on the first ride the lever came back to the bar. Changed the pads
    - no different. Bled the brakes (changing the fluid in the process)
loads of air in there, sorted.

I've been cycling to work recently, then used the (motor)bike
yesterday - lever comes back (nearly) to the bar.

There is (presumably) some fault but I can't fathom what. I'll bleed
them tomorrow in preparation for a TD at Rockingham on Sat.

    Cheers,

    Nick
