Why is the motorcycle industry so behind the rest of the world

    In terms of customer care?

Yesterday, riding home in the pissing rain, my nice spangly new Uvex
started to mist rather badly. Arse thught I, though with no great
surprise. Until I tried to wipe it and discovered that the mist was
    between the two layers.

Manufacturing faults happen, I know this, but by christ I don't really
want to hear Moore's moaning that if I send it to them it's going to
cost money for them to send me a replacement. Their logic that riding
over would cost nothing was a little iffy as well.

Then the bloody Triple's engine management light comes on, and the fan
goes off on the way to work. Keeps me warm, but that's about it.

On Yer Triumph were really helpful and full of useful suggestions, I
don't think. After all, why should they be concerned that a 1000 mile
bike has some kind of fault?

    </rant>

I'm having a bad day. To top it off, my mother was let out of
hospital yesterday at 2:30pm having had a hip replaced last week.
She's only gone a bloody fallen over last night, breaking (AIUI) the
bone near the implant. Looks like she needs to be fixated.
Apparently the implant is fine though.

An interesting paraphrase. Very close to what they actually said.

Even better my nearest dealer *refused* to take the bike. They said
if it turned up on a recover lorry, they'd refuse to sign for it.
I guess. FAFIK she's not even gone to surgery yet:(

She had a bloody frame as well

Harpers in Leigh on Sea charged my mate to order something because they'd
just run out of stock. It was only £5
    but its the principle innit.

Yeah, but even if it wasn't I paid £200 for the helmet less than a
week back. *Some* kind of service (even if only an apology) would
    have been nice.

Ditto for Triumph come to that

Time to start talking about the Sale of Goods act, then. Your contract
is with the retailer, not the manufacturer..... sounds like they need a
    little reminder of this.

If they (the retailers) incur any expense in dealing with these
problems, then it's up to them to reclaim this from the manufacturer.
Bugger. Pass on my best wishes to Mrs Catman Senior.

Thanks for that. She's in some pain, adn slightly embarassed, as is the

She's due for surgery tomorrow, but all the are doing is replacing the ball
    section with a longer one.

Catman was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
Phone Triumph themselves. I found them rather useful when I had those
problems with the Sprint in France, and they *can* lean on the dealer
    if they want to.
    Arse. Sorry to hear that.

Actually, having read various tales of motorcycling woe herein for a while
now it does make me wonder why the motorcycle manufacturers can't make bikes
to the same reliability standards as cars. I do appreciate that motorcycle
bobbins are more exposed to the elements than their car counterparts, but
car bobbins still get covered in salt, water, oil, and other shit and never
seem to suffer quite as badly as bike bobbins (if what is written in this ng
is to anything to go by). I've certainly never experienced quite the
constant stream of mechanical complaints that I read here with any bike (or
car) that I've owned, but then I've only ever had a few learner bikes and a
    couple of mid sized SOBs.
How far was it? If it was only round the corner then feck it, go get one
    Floyd.
Come to think of it, the moaning would have pissed me off, they'd have done
    much better just to say:
"Oh we are terribly sorry to hear that sir, if you would care to pop in with
the faulty goods we'll arrange a replacement on the spot".
    IYSWIM.
Um yes... I've heard horrid stories about this sort of thing concerning
cars... the whole sale of goods act seems to go out of the window for some
reason. One would be forgiven (by me anyway) for thinking that in the case
of motorised vehicles "fit for the purpose" would include not having the
engine management system throw a wobbly after a mere 1000 miles of driving.
But according to the stories I've heard that's just tough shit :-/

Did you buy the bike from them? Presumably it's still under warranty? So
    surely they'll fix it?
    Erm...
    Shit.
Comissery things and may she GWS :-/

Weight, power and price IMHO. Your average car driver probably doesn’t have
a clue how much their car weighs yet a far proportion of bikes will not
only know the weight of their bike but of all the competing ones too and
it'll be a consideration when they come to but the next one. So if Yamasaki
can lose a couple of KG's by having thinner paint and alli fittings then
    they will.

Engines don't last as long as cars because they are higher tuned and need
for care. Modern sports bikes are giving over 300BPH / litre. I can't think
of any car outside a racetrack, which even comes close.

Oh and we want all this for less than 10 grand.

Are they? (Presuming you mean BHP)

News to me - mine only gives half of that.
Quite a few do nowadays, actually, although normally fan-assisted.
Well yeah, that's a better point.
