Why Holy Pushrods

I have read through some posts on here.
Why are the Holy Pushrods so revered?

Surely the old luddites on here remember them but technology moves on
    and so should they.
Overhead Cams and the like are far less noisy, more efficient and
    usually less prone to damage.
I know my CG 125 has pushrods but I'd rather it had overhead cams

Kill the Unbeliever! Stone him! String him up by his figgin! Put
    itching powder in his underpants!

And The Sign Of Holy Pushrods is reserved only for the Ineffably
Luciferous Honda CG125. Other machines may have, or have had, pushrods,
but their hoilness does not shine so bright; nay, it barely glimmers.

The Cult of the Holy Pushrods goes back many years. This Google search
may help explain some of it:

TBF on a low revving engine pushrods are just fine and not having a
    camchain is nice

    Heathen!

The CG brings cheap, reliable riding to the masses, and while I'm at it,
allow me to genuflect at the altar of the single lobe whilst MSOHPR.

They are either utter cak or total genius, depending on your point of view.

Inexpensive, reliable, miserly fuel consumption, cheap spares, reasonable
turn of speed and a total hoot to thrash.

I passed my test on one in 1984, now I teach using them. The abuse they
suffer at the hands of the average CBTer oft brings a tear to the eye of
anyone with an ounce of mechanical sympathy, yet day in, day out, they run.

I can't remember the last time one broke down, yet the OHC equipped Yamaha
SRs were a total pain in the arse. Camchain problems. Tensioner problems.
Cam bearing problems. Cam lobe problems. Dropped exhaust valves. Yuk

Why do you say OHC are more efficient, quieter and less prone to damage?

SRs are noisier mechanically, produce much the same power at the same revs
    and are not bombproof.

The Suzuki GS 125 is similar in engine design to the SR and suffers ( though
to a lesser extent ) the same afflictions.

The C90 and its many variants are OHC, yet they are as reliable as anything
else on the roads, so you cannot just compare based on a tiny sample.

All engines will wilt/melt/go bang if they are abused without maintenance,
OHC or OHV, it matters not a jot if the oil has the consistency of either
piss or treacle, its just the CG <MSOHPR> handles it rather better than its
    peers.

As to wishing your CG had an OHC engine, Honda used to produce one and it
has been cloned by the Chinese. The CB125 engine will drop straight in to
your CG chassis. It will give you, ooh, at least one horsepower more :)

Seriously, if it concerns you, buy a Chinese OHC engine and swap over. In
15,000 to 20,000 miles, the cam bearings will have been eaten away leaving
the cam to eat its way in to the head, or the tensioner will have stuck,
leaving the chain to thrash around, eating its way in to the block.

In the meantime, the CG <MSOHPR>, with its gear driven cam ( Coo, gear
driven cam! ) that runs immersed in oil will still be going strong.

You have read, but not understood.
Enlightenment awaits you, but you must wish to be enlightened.

May your Holy Pushrods (makes Sign of Holy Pushrods) never bend.

    "one at a time, please".

My weight has nothing to do with drinking. It has everything to do
with eating junk snacks, and being a bone-idle layabout.

When I was a regular daily drinker, I was around seven stone lighter
    than I am now.
