Why do the innocent parties come off worse?!?

  1. EQ: 19
    SQ: 48

....which figures. I was disappointed that that my SQ score was so low,
once I realised what it meant. Don't care much about EQ, it's an
irrelevant skill as far as I can see.

Hmm. Do you ever have to deal with other people, in any area of your
    life?

Er, yes. But, without the ability to judge other's feelings, how do
you know what is the "right thing"?

IMHO the "right thing" is about being even handed and ethical, rather
than simply doing what makes people happy or gains popularity.

Interestingly (to me), almost everyone has scored well below the
'average' male score of 42, except JackH. Almost everyone else was in
the "lower than average" category of less than 33, and plenty in the
Aspergers zone of 20 or lower. I guess that might be a reflection of
the sort of people who like usenet.

I think as long as you take responsibility for the consequences of
your actions (or inaction) then pretty much anything goes. We have no
way of truly knowing what someone else is feeling so it is always a
    best guess situation.

You up for a late lunch later when I'm done with solicitors? 2 to
    2.30ish?

Not only that, but feelings are quite irrational, and inconsistent
    between people.
Dunno, I was planning on working through today, but maybe as I've lost
the will to exhaust myself. Give me a call and I'll see how it's going.

If the decision to be made has an ethical dimension, then maybe. But
how about a decision you have to make as a manager of a team? Surely
you'd agree that knowing how the indivuals feel is useful?

I'm struggling to find a situation where "feelings" over-ride the need
for work to be done, or decisions to be made. Circumstances sure.. if
someone is ill, has family problems, whatever give them extra space and
support.. but that's not about feelings really. If someone is simply in
a pissy mood, upset because they had an argument with their wife, or
whatever, it's more or less irrelevant and they should still do their
    job.

No, *that* is irrelevant. Regardless of how you feel people should do what
and when, the fact remains that as a manager your job is - in part- to get
the best out of them. If someone is in a pissy mood and you don't take that
into account, and decide that is the day you're going to shout at them, then
you're being a poor manager. Someone somewhere must be doing a pretty good
job of managing you if the ranting on here is any indication of your
    attitude at work.
