Why can't shaft drive bikes countersteer?

Why can't posters back up their stupid assertions in the body of the
message? Or is this a troll?

OK, here goes... I thought it was a well known fact that shafties
can't countersteer, although the assertion that they can't wheelie is
a furphy (they can wheelie, but it the physics of the matter make it
    really really difficult).

Something to do with the coriolis effect apparently. An interesting
side effect is that as a generalisation (as with water going down the
sink hole, you can force it to go the other way) in the southern
hemisphere shafties can't lean into right hand corners, whereas in
north america shafties can't lean into left hand corners (only right
    hand ones).

    Hope this helps.

    cheers, Bill :)

What part of "new" escaped your limited attention?

    They can't?

What was that I did on the way to work this morning then? Was the road
    tilted rather than the bike?

Define "lean into" for me, will ya? Serious question - maybe my
    definitions are wrong.

DaZZa - wondering if he's doing the impossible, and if so should he
    stop?

  8. I can't see the original post, but assuming you're talking about the
_usual_ old troll, its not so much trolling any more, its more
    _tradition_ these days...

Hell, people were complaining about it being old 10 years ago:

Sorry to say bill but i have an oilhead boxer (GS) shafty & if you ask it
to..it can stand on its tail light under throttle before you get across the
set of lights from a stand still. Its about torque. You do run out of rev's
pretty quick though so some of my landings leave a bit to be desired. I
asked that bloke at canungra (suposed to be one of the best BM mechs about )
& he said i can do it till i need glasses as long as its under throttle...it
wont really do damage...clutch it & the diff wont be long for the world.

I used to look at BM riders over the past 25 years of riding &
    think..insipid old crotchety fools...now i am one.

Why did i take so long to see the light ?

We aren't knocking the handling ability of BMW's (air-head or
otherwise), I remember my beemer with pleasure.

But shaft drives handle differently... as you well know.

That different 'feeling' is the lack or true countersteering.

You can push on a Beemer bar and it'll turn... it just won't countersteer.

We aren't talking about wheelies... of course they can get the front end
    off the ground.

    But shafties can't countersteer!

    G-S (Guzzi V11 LeMans that doesn't countersteer & Kawasasaki ZRX1200R
    that does).

I would guess that you are nothing but a sour kraut now after what I said.
