Who's coming to the BOSM then?

Yes, often. Straightforward for a private function (or used to be)
Which part of the "Snot going to add more than a pound or three to the bill"
did you miss? Publicans, and I've worked for a few in days of yore, tend to
hire staff to cover late doos. I wasn't suggesting that Mike burn the
    candles.

As for "a geeetar playing Minstrel or two in the big room after dinner would
be fine and dandy" it was a lead in for the Champ's of this world (ignored
    or missed).

Well for reasons quite unrelated I think I'll have to pass this time it
    seems.

Well you missed the Champ angle as well then. Perhaps it was just too
    subtle.
Says the man who barely has to leave his front garden to attend. Thanks.

They don't strike me as retentive types at all in fact.
Come to think of it I doubt you could survive as a Publican if you were.

Rather ignoring the change of format you Ruffian, what? 4 days rather than
    an overnighter.
Well I'd happily do something, around one of the smaller road races would be
class, but the cost of the ferries is a bit steep for
    most.

Well TBF he knows I'm unlikely to take offence!
He also knows that I'm not the negative or unhelpful sort. It was
    constructive rather than destructive

TBF to me I suppose I have a different perspective. Big difference between a
nice rideout through middle England for an evening or two of beer/chat and
making a 600 mile round trip with £90 in ferry fares. If I lived in
Manchester or Glasgow even I probably wouldn't give the format a second
    thought.

One of the reasons I like things just the way they are is that I will
continue to use the pub after UKRM have departed. Part of the charm of
the black horse is that it's a good old fashioned country pub, they're
    becoming rarer and rarer.

Did I ever criticize it? Did I suggest you find another venue? no.
The Scotch Piper (for instance) is a better venue from the POV of camping
etc. but they have no facility to lay on meals or breakfast in house.

  9. Should bear in mind it's our host's home as well, and he might like
the opportunity to get some sleep after keeping us lot happy.
See above. Basic ideas have much merit, but I think may be unworkable
    at the proposed venue.

One of the best landlords I ever knew was a recovering alcoholic. I had
huge respect for the guy. It would have been *so* easy for a bottle to
talk to him one night, after a shitty day. But (AFAIK), it never did.

    Proper bloke he was.

How about getting a full symphony orchestra, Terry Wogan to compere, the
late Alma Cogan, a late license until June and full son et luminaire
show outside all night long? Should only add 3p to the costs.

You're just being silly now, aren't you? We'd never get Wogan.
