    Fairly often we get into discussions about the Public not particularly
    liking motorcycles in general.
    Mainly, some motorcyclist think it is because of the high percentage of
    Bikes having loud pipes.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    We all know that's debateable, and could be discussed for hours on
    end, and never get beyond the fact that the ones who run with loud pipes
    disagree. Simple as that!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I think the general public actually
    admires motorcyclist. I base this on our own experiences around here. Of
    course,I dont know what goes on in other areas of State.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    But here, for instance, when we pull up to top off, or to eat, or rest
    at public rest areas, the general public so often will walk over and say
    nice things about our bikes, and are quite friendly to us, standing
    there in our biking 'git Up''. <g>
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Yesterday,Sunday morning, on our way to South Louisana to the dirt track
    around Plain Dealing, first we pulled in the real busy Exxon, at
    Richmond and I30 to fill 'er' up.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    This regular looking fellow,while getting his gas,was smiling as he
    bragged on us, and it seemed mainly, for daring to ride in the 42 degree
    morning.
    He seemed quite curious, and looked over the Mighty Valk.
    But, I think he was more interested in the ''get up'' we were wearing.
    Along with our goodlooking leather,we had the neoPreme masks on, of
    which conceles ones identity for sure.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Honey took hers off to speak to him,because he _was_ so friendly.
    Moments later, as we were mounting to ride off, he said ''hold it a
    minute''. I have a pair of gloves I wanna give ya'''.
    He gave me a nice pair of gloves, and remarked ‘‘ I just wanted ya'
    to have an extra pair, on me’’
    He told us to have fun and be careful, as we pulled out.

    Goes back to what I've been saying about you Bjay.. "maybe you oughtta
    get out of Bowie county for ways.. Take a look at some of the legislation
    that is biased against motorcyclists in general.. Hell, you can even stay
    home
    to do that.. EPA is flexing their muscles to commence enforcing their
    regulations
    which will put an end to most performance modifications to motorcycles..

    What are you and the boys in Bowie county doing about all that ?

    Man all I know is what happens in my riding world. <g>.
    Bill, have you personally encountered folks out there that seem to be
    aggravated that you dared o ride up on your Bike?
    You have rode a lotta miles in the last 6 months, can you recall any
    instances that reflect the publics attitude in a negative manner. Can
    you recall any instances where the public was kind, in regards of
    possibly carrying on a conversation with you as you get on or off your
    bike, or something similar? Can you personally recall a situation where
    the public was directly rood to you, as you stand there looking like a
    Biker?
    Know what I'm sayin'?

    I personally hold my own, no matter what the circumstances are..
    There are a few places in the DFW area that aren't hospitable to
    the biker element.. I don't patronize those places..

    Anyone who would express themselves to be hostile to my appearance
    wouldn't appreciate the response from me..

    Other.. more insidious incursions that encroach on the rights I enjoy
    in the motorcycling world aren't so easy to deal with.. I just gave you
    one very good example with the EPA Regulation which is punitive
    to many motorcyclists in this state and country.. You failed to address
    that issue or to even ask a question about it. The rights and respect
    that you enjoy, every time you ride that motorcycle were fought for
    and won for you, by a lot of good men and women who actually
    went the extra mile..

    Could be.. doesn't matter much, if legislation passes that will cause LEO's
    to feel justified in stopping you on one of your rides around Bowie county,
    you'll see little or no effect on all that public.. Meantime.. I had people
    who
    expressed interest in me and my motorcycle, all over this country and in
    Mexico.. Neat people who were travelling the same as me, only in cars..

    For the most part, I don't have a problem on the highways.. Have had a few
    over the years, but they were handled OK.. All of us riding these things
    have
    favorite and fond memories of some of our encounters with the public..Some
    of us, also have gone to our state capitol to work hard to get the respect
    of
    the government that has the power to take us off the road entirely..

    Yeah, know what cha' mean. We get a kick out of how many little ole'
    Ladies seem to be interested in us. The other day we went to a Gospel
    Quartet singing, out at the Methodist in Redwater. Well sir, maybe two
    men made a comment, or gave us a look, ya' know, but two Ladies, walked
    over, and ask questions, and bragged. (grin)
    The Gov. may have the power to get rid of Riders or whatever, but, my
    opinion is;
    "it'll never happen'' it is too late, there are too many
    Bikes,especially Harleys, and too many Lawyers/Judges/Doctors Ride these
    days''.
