They say that they'll increase their fee by 50% if it's not paid
    within their time limit.

Yebbut they are working under the motto "Might is Right" they can sya
and do what they fucking like. Your options are much more limited but
fucking them over as hard as you can by spending their time is one you
    are allowed.

I stuck the Duke on the battery charger first. The 400 Four fired up
after a few seconds on the starter. I ran it for 20 minutes on a fast
idle. The Trophy was.... reluctant... but fired in the end. I rode it
around, and then cleaned the plugs. Bleedin' awful job getting at them.

They'd never turn up to a small-claim court anyway, so it would be
worth wasting the £35 (or however much it is now) just to win by
    default.

  8. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Adrienne M Bonwick amazed us all with this pearl
    of wisdom:
Yep. I've got to do mine, too. The GS has been run in the last week but
only went 6 miles and struggled to start as the battery was weak from
lack of use and the RatBlade's battery's been on charge since... blimey
    for about 2 months.

I nearly did. I turned the ignition on, saw the tacho needle swing, the
lights on the clocks light up and got scared, so I switched it off
    again.

I contented myself with fitting some new mirrors and left it at that.

Ah. The Bandit has an immobiliser fitted, so it lives on the Optimate
when it's in the garage, as it has been for far too bloody long now -
I think the last time I rode it (to my shame) was returning from the
EoSM. A bit of whirring while it drew petrol through the carbs, then
a sort of slow, "wuffly" (I can only come up with that onomatopaeia
for it) start, followed by a couple of coughs. It soon settled into
its normal, choke-enhanced warm-up phase. As it's currently under
SORN and not insured for the road, I didn't dare take it out, although
I really really REALLY wanted to, so I let it idle for half an hour or
so to warm things up properly, then put it back. Ho hum. Now you'll
most likely tell me I was doing serious harm...

....cleaned and gapped the plugs, re-torqued the heads, did the valve
clearances, cleaned up the carbs a bit and got some gunge out of the float
bowls, blew through the idle jets etc, started it up and had a little
trundle round the block. May have taken the best part of an hour...

  13. I doubt it, as it's exactly what I did with the 400.....

Like you said, I wanted the engine to get nice and hot before I shut it
    away again.

  14. I'm reminded of Fred Gassit's immortal explanation for a "little trundle
to get away from the wife" scenario.

"Just taking the bike out to, er, circulate the oil, dear!"

Ta. I'm quite happy to admit I'm a total mechanical disaster area,
    and dangerous with a spanner.

He's a wanker, you know that as do many others. Just hope that one day
he discovers paracetamol and vodka. At the same time.

Isn't it a lot easier just to contact them telling them they've made a
mistake? I value my spare time a lot more than to waste it being petty
enough to follow a course of action such as that described above and I
also appreciate that people make genuine mistakes and sometimes these
should be cleared up without being a total twat about it.

Pathetic. Honestly, if you've never made a mistake in your job then
that's fine but otherwise you're just pathetic.

    Paracetamol, vodka and wanking. Hmm.
