Who hates bear?

  1. ISTR Bruce, on a French Run, saying that when he saw the brake light on
my Ducati come on, he grabbed every anchor in sight.

  2. I'm thinking of asking him how he knew what it revved to, given that the
CG125 (Makes Sign of Holy Pushrods) doesn't have a tacho.

    fucking *ding*, man.

I don't think I comfort brake, preferring to try to use the throttle to
be at the right speed for corner entry early, then opening the throttle
    through the bend.

I do tend to panic brake on occasion, mind you.

I say a lot of things.

In terms of who's faster betwixt you and Bear, I suspect it's you,
    particularly at the moment ;-)

  7. Especially in the mornings. Before his 5th cup of coffee.

Don't worry, I certainly didn't take it as an insult. I was actually
quite pleased that I'd earned a mild compliment !
It's definitely me. Always has been.

Probably not much, depending on how shite-encrusted your rear brake
    pistons are.
On your bike, I doubt there's much point using it for any of those things.

On other bikes, with a different weight distribution and geometry, the
back brake can help quite significantly.

Of course, that doesn't excuse what I did on the track day: "OK, front
brake into the corner... tip it in... hmmm... that squeaking noise
sounds just like the noise my back brake makes, how odd... wonder what
it is... power through the corner... stand it up, next corner, front
brake again... there's that squeaking noise again... WTF?! What am I
using that for?! Stop that right now!"
On a ZX6R? It's for holding the bike stationary on hills.

I remember hearing a couple of years ago (maybe here?) about a small
group of people out for a blast who were completely dusted by an old
bloke in shorts & t-shirt with a shopping basket hanging over his arm.

They tried to keep with him and failed miserably, but spotted his bike
parked outside a shop further down the road. They stopped to have a
chat, & discovered it was Phil Read.

Talking of which, the man himself is looking for a race mechanic to
look after his 500 Moto Paton for this year's European Championship, if
anyone's able & willing. "[He] can offer wine, women, song and VIP
    treatment but no wages".

It's not exactly hard to fit an electronic tacho to a CG125. Although
when we chatted about this, I was more focused on the engine mods he did
than things like how he put a techo on.

The back brake is for pressing very, very hard milliseconds before you hit
    the side of a car.

Unless of course you only rest your foot on the entry to corners ) [1]

[1] I think I would rather be too slow in than too fast in on the wing.

it was intended as a compliment.
heh. I'm sure you both believe the same is true for each of you. I've
never ridden with Bear except when he'd just been born again, so it's
    not a fair comparison.

Yeah, me too, but that's because there's generally enough to be
concentrating on already[1] without adding to it unless really
    required.[2]

[1] My lines are generally to try and avoid crap areas of road
surface rather than the quickest line through as it won't be if
catching a bit of drain cover or overbanding knocks you sideways.
[2] I'm still a tad rusty after the winter and the bike needs a
service - it had a fair amount of clutch slip on Monday when only
    giving it mild beans.

When the back wheel is already in the air, due to you hitting the front
brake hard enough to induce a stoppie...

Have you considered doing a race school? SOmething like the California

    what's to hate?

A reasonable, tolerant, light-hearted kind of guy, always willing to
lend the weight of his years of experience in many fields to help out
the struggling newbie; always one to think an argument through rather
than just jump in with both feet and say the first thing that comes to
mind; never one to take grievous insult at a well-meaning jest...etc...
