Who do I think this is dodgy?

Because this is a 1978/79 bike. On the last GT125s, everything was
restyled - engine restyled, plastic guards, new tank, side panels, seat,
    alloy wheels etc etc.

Essentially, they tried to make the bike look like the X7.

I fancy one of these, but I've emailed the owner with my concerns and
all he knows is that he bought it like this.

Someone *could* have built everything from a 78/79 bike onto a 1976
frame, I suppose, but to me this smells like a ringer.

It certainly looks like one of the last of the GTs now, not at all like
a '76 wire spoked wheel and rounded tank/no tailpiece one.
It does to me too, but it was probably done a long long time ago. Too
long ago for me to worry about. My only concern would be its resale
value. It won't be worth anywhere near as much as a straight 1979 or
even a 1976 model in my book.

Rounded tank, spoked wheels on a '76. Chrome 'guards too.

Alloys + rectangular tank on last models.

Summat rotten in the state of Denmark.

Doubtless Lozzo will confirm or deny.

Would you, or anyone else for that matter, go to all that effort for a
    25 year old 125?

  6. Well, I'm considering 12"-over springers, forwards, peanut tank and 21"
    front hoop for the Z200...

When my ex-wife's Yamaha Passola was nicked, some muppet stole 2 others
to build one from, all for a total proft of 150 quid. I'd say yes
someone would go to the trouble if the guy has a stolen later model bike
and a 1976 frame kicking around to swop it all in to. It all depends on
    when it was ringed.

What diameter is your rear hoop?

As an aside, I've a spare 21" wheel in the garage.

  9. The thing is, a really clean little GT125 is qorth quite a bit of money
    now.

I'm still corresponding with the seller, who never bothered to check
engine and frame numbers when he bought it (not that he's alone in that,
    by a long chalk).

He wants to know how to check it. I told him to contact Suzuki GB and/or
the VJMC, or to ask SWK, and added that I do K.

  10. 17" I suppose I could get a fatter tyre onto it.
    No, no, it's madness.

Had th Z out for a trundle this evening. The clutch has freed, and the
fuelling problems seem to be going away. Indicated 50 seems a bit bluddy
    fast.

You should try my CB on a bumpy road at an indicated 85. It's not really
in contact with the road, in fact it feels like it's not in contact with
this planet. It kind of leaps from one dimension to another, along with
    my vision....2D..3D..double vision..2D..3D..double vision..2D..3D

  12. I want to change the oil before I give it too much serious abuse. I doubt
85's on the cards anyway. I must try getting the front end up - if Snowy
can wheely the thing, I should have a fair chance. Stoppies are right out,
though - the effct of the front brake is (genuinely) barely perceptible.

  14. Also, in a scan of a Swedish magazine, a 1982 advert depicting the
    styling in the ebay auction.

Nope, that bike is definitely hookey. As Lozzo says, I'd just be
interested to know when it was ringed.

  15. The seller has now had it HPI'd and it was completely rebuilt in 1981
and declared to the DVLA. Speedo change also declared. Not recorded as
stolen. Colour changed twice since then (!).

Hmmm...... OK, it wouldn;t show as stolen if it was rebuilt onto a legal
frame. OTOH the fact that it's been declared as rebuilt to the DVLA
suggests that it was done properly - maybe. OTOH (again) the change of
colour twice since is odd as well.

    Any other thoughts, anyone?

So it's a straightish bike, for whatever reasons, but it's not original.
Makes it worth buying, but not worth spending lots of dosh on.

I'd buy it, but only as a keeper, not to try and make a profit from.
