Not if Billericay is anything to go by. The members of our local tory
Club are as bigoted and uncaring and selfish as ever they were. It is
that unswerving loyalty to tradition and precedent and high returns on
their capital investments regardless of the consequences to others that
keeps them as popular as they are.

I'd suggest Benn, Skinner and possibly Grant, off the top of my head, who
followed the line set by conference - i.e. the Party's governing body.

    ....and of course: William Gallacher.

Both democrats with a capital "D" but both have had the whip withdrawn

Of course, how silly of me to forget, loyalty personified.

...but their decisions (IIRC) were in line with the then current party
    policy.

Let's not confuse decisions made by an MP that are contrary to the
party's stated policy (PFI, extension of rail privatisation etc.) and
matters on which there is no stated policy only the historical precedent
of the party's ideological based decisions. e.g. War in Iraq etc. the
recent ideological precedent would be against - as was the majority of
the CLPs - but the Executive decided otherwise.

    Heh.

Fine I'll go with that, let us not confuse decisions made by an MP
contrary to stated party policy. Now what is the point you are making?

I was thinking of spam, egg, chips (more like fries actually) and a
couple of slices, all washed down with a cup of hot quickly brewed tea,
    easy on the sugar.

That's my very point young Auvache, the parliamentary part is trying to
be all middle of the road and semi-liberal, approval of Queer's for
instance. The constituent members would still boil them in oil..... even
if it is hypocrisy in many cases ;o)
