It was a 1996/97 thing. Mine was the very dark mica blue like the rally
cars were, not that awful light metallic blue. My boss had a light
coloured Turbo and it was gay as ****. He was the Jewish guy who tried
his damndest to order a Turbo in Jewish Racing Gold. The MD of IM was ok
with that at first, but put then a block on it when he heard the reasons
why James wanted a Turbo that colour. If you know of the MD of IM you'll
    understand why.
It looked pos, as the Blane would say.

  4. The ex husband bought one. I chortle every time it has to go to the
garage for something else expensive to be fixed.

Yes, but the next generation after that is pants.
That would be the one that's with the mechanic who fell off the wagon
    then?

I didn't say that they wouldn't last :), to me they just feel 'loose'
    after fairly low mileage.

I didn't say there was anything wrong in it.

    I've lived here 25 years, I think it's great.

I've just had a think, and I'm sure that the last time I sat in a car,
was when Linda's brother picked us up from Heathrow - April 2nd, iirc.

  9. I'd like to drive a modern Saab. I loved The Doctor's old beetle-browed
900, and my own 900 was incredibly solid and comfy - a lovely
    old-fashioned sort of touring car.

Then I drove a new-shape 900, and hated it. Cheap, flimsy, noisy, nasty.
It had the same twin-cam balancer-shafted lump as my old 9000, though
    you'd never have realised it.

    I'd like to try a 9/3....

(Mind you, I know eff all about cars and am a crap driver, so it
probably owuld be wasted on me anyway)

"Stand loud" is leftover slang from the '70s, when I used to buy the
occasional copy of Street Machine. "Indirects" is pub-speak (again,
somewhat antique) for the lower gears.
Don't worry, I didn't hurt your baby, just provoked an intimation of
    torque-steer...
Well, obviously. If it didn't handle well, it would be stuck in a hedge
somewhere, with a **** like me at the wheel.
I'd like to point out that I've only once put anything in a hedge, and that
was the Drifter, at very low speed, and I wasn't actually on board at the
    time.

I could tell some stories involving motor club evening events not
sanctioned by the governing body, Fiat Uno turbos, Metro turbos,
narrow Devonian lanes and tears - but we don't have time for that
    right now.

The Fuglypla had a couple of minor faults not long after I got it, and did
its aircon pump around 80K. Apart from that, it's been serviced and
thrashed for 5+ years, and seems fit for the same again. Oh, the clutch is
    starting to slip, too.

    Champ says...
I could pop downstairs and just ask him to recount the tale, which no
doubt he'd do with a flourish of arms and a loud geordie laugh where
needed, but he does it even better in text.

Bloke I bought my first R21 from had used it as a CoCar for three
years without fault. He moved on to a Fiat Croma. Two days in, as he
was turning right on the roundabout at the end of Tring High Street,
it cut dead on him. No engine, no electrics - and just to fail safe,
it slapped the central locking shut as it went away.

So there's chappie, astraddle a roundabout in the way of a mile of
traffic in either direction, locked in a dead car. He couldn't even
sound the horn in protest. He was there for twenty minutes, until
released by a rather red-faced and irate copper who'd had to run back
to his Panda to retrieve his expanding baton which he used to smash a
    window.

That was only the start of a litany of embarrassing faults that left
him stranded on numerous occasions, repeating the cutting dead thing a
further twice until he got Fiat to take the accursed thing back. The
replacement wasn't much better. I picked him up from the garage four
times in his old car - he really appreciated that.

Compare a Vauxhall Vectra-based 900 (aka the first GM generation) to
the old 900 and tell me I'm spouting bollocks.

TOG's summed up the difference pretty nicely.

Yes, I was referring to the early 'new' 900s (1994 model), which was
why I said I wanted to try a 9/3 because, allegedly, they're much
    better.
