So I have this new toy. A little milling machine. And it's *immaculate*.
Those who have seen my workshop will know that this is not a good
    environment for an immaculate machine.

So I decide to build an enclosure for it, "protect and survive" and all
    that jazz.

So I do, working in the main part of the garage because there's space
there. A thing of some beauty, it is. Painted white. Lovely.

    But.
    It.
    Won't.
    Fit.
    Through.
    The.
    Fucking.
    Workshop.
    Door...

    <sob>

I see a saw in my future.

    And possibly hammers.

The same thing happened to me when i bought a full sized coin operated
arcade machine home. I wanted it upstairs but it wouldn't go through the
    front door.

I left it in the garage in the end and charged my mates 10p a go ;-)

where'd you get it and how much did you pay for it?

I'm looking for a upright 80-s style game cabinet at the moment, to
    build a MAME-running PC into.

I bought it off an ex schoolmate who i bumped into while doing some work
on an industrial estate in Sussex. It was one of the original Space
Invaders (1979) IIRC. I paid £80 for it which seemed high at the time
but sold it on a few months later for £120.

If only I had the sense to hang onto it, they're changing hands for
    hundreds of pounds now.

There are places that sell ex pub and arcade machines. If you want to
build a MAME cabinet perhaps you can buy a battered and shit looking cab
with internals that don't work for next to nothing and use it as a
template. Does it have to have all the artwork on the cabinet? I suppose
you know about www.mame.dk ? You can download all the flyers and
marquees that were released with the game and will give you some idea of
what the cabinet should look like when it's finished.

BTW, I've still got that S3 Savage4 16MB AGP Graphics card if you want
it which would be ideal for your project.

Arse! mame.dk is no more by the looks (

You can always try www.playagain.net but getting the artwork from there
    is a bit more fiddly.

  11. Useful links for that sort of stuff here...

http://www.gamecabinetsinc.com/ (yankees, but apparently ship overseas)

I'd love to build one but, sadly, can't be arsed.

I'm just after a cabinet, to build one of these:

    http://www.1uparcade.com/

Though I may just buy a lot of MDF and build one from scratch.

One of the things I miss from my engineering days is access to lathes
    and millers.

What make/model is the miller ?

And the important question - how many horsepower ?

    I'll have it then, thanks.

Where are you based? Actually, you're banned at the moment, aren't
you? What are you doing for a living if you can't courier?

What am I doing for a living? Living off the meagre savings I had until

Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Klaatu
It's a tiny little thing[1], called a "Taig" mill. CNC controlled,
    s'very nice.
Tiny, tiny, tiny. I use my Bridgeport for anything larger. That's a mere
3HP. Bonwick will be along shortly to point and laugh.

it's not necessarily "too far", but it'd probably cost more in petrol
than postage. I'll definitely buy you a few pints if you ever come to
    another ukrm drinks evening...
that sucks. How long are you banned for?
