Christmas number 1 it is then, now that it has the approval of the
    common man.

I'm more common than he is, and I think it's a steaming pile of
    festering shite.

I can just hear my son singing

He rides me around on his shite RD.

Don't you think it's a bit affected? "I went to work with ma da' and had
    a top day".

It's mawkish toss by someone who had a conventional upbringing but was
ignored by his father who was more worried about keeping his job and
paying off the spiralling credit cards. The author sees this in himself
now and imagines what it would have been like if he'd had, what he
believes, to be a salt of the earth dad. Whilst he's just destined to
    repeat the same futile existence.

Yeah, it'll make a great crimbo number one.

It's actually a song about a little lad who's being bullied, based on
the singer's own experiences as a 5 yr old. Luke's dad has just given up
his job to manage the band.

According to an interview the other week on the XFM, his dad used to pick
him up from school occasionally in his work vehicle, which just so happened
to be a bright yellow example of Bamford's finest digger.

    Hence the song.

I got my info from the BBC. I trust the BBC, but not some of the muppets
    who do work for them.

Middle class? MIDDLE FUCKING CLASS? I work for a living, I'll have
you know! No qualifications higher than a solitary A-level. Any more
common and I'd have to wear a flat cap and keep a whippet on a string.

My daughter appears to like it, and yours probably will too.
I imagine I'll be able to successfully ignore it.

I hadn't heard it until I downloaded it yesterday. It's managed to miss
    the Weller household so far.

One can hope it continues to keep it's heartfelt and meaningful longings
    away from our door.

I prefer my version as it's consistent and explains the mawkish toss of a
song. No one in their right mind would release such an affectation
unless they knew exactly what they were doing.
