which tyres?

Was that the stuff cut with sherbet instead of icing sugar?
It made people sneeze and blow their next line away?

I remember The New Seekers, The New Avengers and New York.
Not a patch on the originals.

hmm. Have you ever ridden a road bike with something a lot more sticky
than 010s on? Having tried Rennsports, I would never go back to 010s
for a road bike. That's in the dry, of course, in the wet, all bets are
    off.

If you only have one bike, and you regularly use it in the wet,
Rennsports wouldn't be a good choice.

I just sort of meant, I wouldn't choose Rennsports if I new I was going
to be doing a lot of riding in the wet - not that they were totally
unsuitable for wet weather riding. Unlike - as I've already mentioned
elsewhere in this thread - Michelin Pilot Race - these were brilliant
in the dry, probably slightly more grip than Rennsports, but they were
totally, and I mean *totally* useless in the wet.

I agree with you about 010s not being suitable for the track - I had
them on my TRX850 at Lydden Hill, and by the end of the day, tyres
which had previously had about 300 miles of road use on them were
    totally fucked.

Further proof that I ride like a girl as I managed to get three TD's out of
    a set!

well, I don't mean I'd worn all the tread away, like you'd do in a few
thousand miles of road riding - more that the heat cycles had bobbled
up the rubber, in particular around the last 1.5cm on each side of the
tyre, so that great chunks of rubber just peeled off. I still got
another 1000 miles or so out of them before they started to feel too
    iffy.

Plus, you ride like a girl.

But that's what they do anyway when they get hot. I'm sure you've noticed
that the bobbles smooth off pretty quickly, unless you're not exaggerating
and "great chinks" literally did peel off; in case which **** knows what was
happening because however fast you were going on a not-too-hot day around a
very small track they shouldn't be "fucked". I had 010s on that day as well.
The 010s that I got about 7000 miles out of (also incl 3 track days).

In short, I think you're talking bollocks.

    well. Maybe mine were "off".

Actually, and clearly I'm going out on a fragile limb where I don't
really know what I'm talking about, but maybe it's a twin -v- four
thing. Certainly my TRX wore out tyres in a different way from any
    other bike I've owned.

    What kind of bike?

I had 010s on my SV and never got more than 5K on the front and 3K on
    the rear.

That was a ZX6R. And iirc - and at the risk of flogging that particular
horse- my laps weren't much slower than darsy's.

Shite suspension played a major part in that problem, not just tyre
    choice.

aha! If you could say nothing else about a TRX850, it definitely had
    shite rear suspension.

    Coupled with v-twin stomp [1]...

    exiting the corner *well* =
spinning up the rear tyre =
    overheating rear tyre =
    fucked rear tyre.

I'm not talking Rossi sideways stuff here, but I guarantee anyone who
can turn a half decent speed around a track would be amazed at how
much they spin up the rear on the exit of a corner. The difference
between us and racers is they know they're doing it!

[1] OK not Ducati 999 stomp but you get the idea

No doubt. I was however questioning whether that was the case here.

But be fair, you fucking crashed the thing while hooning round a
roundabout, so you can't really rate the virtues of either size.
