my mate (as per ealrier posts)

    is looking at 95 cbr600 , 48000 kays , supposedly in good nick $4000

which got me wondering (shaddup clem)

whats else is available or preferable at the age/price

im guessing the cbr600's are a good bet , there would also be the first
model zx6r;s and probbaly early yzf600 , dunno if
suzuki have anything except maybe the rf600 which doesnt seem that popular

from what i can gather cbr600 (f3 ???) dont change much until 98 when the f4
came and zx6r didnt change much till the h model came out ???

    cheers corks

The best bike I ever had for just riding around locally was the Suzuke
    RF600.

You could get a 1996 YZF600 like I used to have for around $5k. The zx-6r's
tend to be a grand more expensive.

    Nah. CBR600F4 came out in 1999, and the F-model ZX6 ('95-'97) is
a_very_different bike to the G-, J- and 636A-models. Little things are
identical, like swingarm spindle diameter, for example, and the engines
are externally the same, but everything else about them could barely be
    more different.

Btw, $4000 for a '95 CBR600... it'd want to have fresh tyres, chain,
sprockets and brakepads, a loud pipe, a rack and bag, hopefully a
Bagster and a fair bit of rego.

    Then again, this is WA...

Well, buying a bike and selling it after 1500 kms is not the most
cost-effective way to travel. How many times have you done that now?

191,000 on the current bike. If the current value were $0, it will have cost
me just under a cent per km in depreciation. :)

The simplest way is not to do this "sell" thing.

Just buy another one when you get the new bike fever.
Hrm.. I bought the T in what.. 95? Speedo cable broke ages ago, but
I reckon we are over 120,000 miles. So that's about the same mileage
but the bike only cost 5 grand. So a bit under 3c/km.

But then the whole world's mad but me and thee, and thou hast a
    squarefin...

Alls right then. I'd love to hear Corks' depreciation cost per km over the
    last four years. :)

especially as neither of our bikes is worth zero.

I even got asked to sell it the last time I was in MotoCiclo!

There are roundfin groupies everywhere I tell you.

I got over roundfins, on my second square. Not counting Helen's three past
Guzzies. She went from 250TS (would you believe) to a V65SP, to a V75, to a
    RAV4.

nothing wrong with rf600 if you treat it good. dump the standard plugs for
dual sparks start her up ride her hard and she will be good to you. not much
good for a wheelie to heavy 195kgs grips the road real good leans well but
the honda is faster rf600 has the looks to turn heads
