Which Insurance Broker/Company

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Ken McCulloch, Oct 24, 2003.

  1. As a soon to be born again rider i'm puzzled by the range of premiums
I've been offered for an SV650. Carole Nash was one of the most
expensive at >600UKP, the cheapest was Bennetts at 280. I get the sense
from posts here that Bennetts are not recommended by many - why?

More mysteriously the proposed underwriter in the Bennetts quote is
Norwich Union, but when I go to them for a direct quote it's 360 or so.

I'm in no rush to make a decision because I won't be putting the bike on
the road until March but I'd be grateful for any informed comment.

I am with NU Direct, they were the cheapest for my bike (new rider) at £280
FC. They also do breakdown cover which I have, but have not yet used.

I swapped my company car for my own car last year, and NU via a broker were
    £1100 FC, but £500 direct.

The rise of the direct approach by insurers is why I left [1] the insurance
    broking industry many years ago.

[1] well, one of the reasons, the main one being it was (and is) a shite
    business to be in.

Buy the policy from Bennetts. Check all your documents are correct if/when
they arrive. If you need to make a claim contact Norwich Union head office
as Bennetts customer service is pants.

This is what I did with a house insurance claim as the broker was useless.
(Although it was not Bennetts and the insurance company was Groupama.) Once
I contacted the insurance company directly, the claim was processed within
    a week.

Check if they have slapped a large excess onto the premium, this can
make a huge difference and they won't always tell you they've done it.
