nor in any news articles or books I have read, have I ever heard of
any Australian Army unit being in Vietnam _before_ the AATTV went
there.

You claim to have been there with an RAE unit at least five months
_before_ that date. I contacted the RAE Vietnam Asoociation and they
don't know of any RAE unit being in Vietnam before 1965, when 3 Field
Troop got there.

Now, you'd think that 46 years later the RAE Vietnam Association would
have heard if there had been some "top seecret" bridge building
mission carried out by one of their units, eh? Such stuff would be
now be declassified. They would happily be weaving that into their
corps's history, no?

And another thing, building bridges is a peaceful, constructive thing
to be doing, so why would our government have kept such a deployment
secret? Surely if they had sent an RAE unit over there for such a
purpose, they would have milked it for every drop of PR value they
could. It would have been in all the papers and on every TV channel
at the time.

not have been kept secret. It would have been a PR opportunity no
government would have missed.

classified "Secret" in 1962, would have been decassified in 1992, or
some time soon afterwards. It would certainly no longer be classifed
now, 46 years later.

Vietman Association would _certainly_ be proudly and happily
trumpeting such an amazing and noteworthy piece of RAE Vietnam
