I want to go to my first bike race this year but could do with a few
pointers, I often go to F1 races and keep up to date the racing calendar
    throught itv's F1 site.

So, my question is I suppose what is the motorcycling equivelent of F1
(MotoGP or World Superbikes maybe?) and which is the best website to keep up
to date with next years provisional calendar, also any know a good source
for tickets or do you buy at the gate.

Any info really would be great.

  2. well I've only been to one but it was the uk round of Moto GP 2002 held
at Donington Park. Within seconds of seeing the Moto GP bikes on their
morning warm up session I had a daft grin on my face. I got horribly
sunburnt but it was great fun and an excellent atmosphere.

World Superbikes is changing for 2004 and no one really knows what sort
of riding there will be. A lot of the good riders have moved to Moto GP
and to be honest I didn't follow it in 2003 as I really don't want to
see Ducatis winning all the time. It will probably make sense to watch
the telly coverage and see how the series develops.

British Superbikes has on all accounts an excellent reputation. The
riders are good, a wide range of bike makes and usually plenty of knock
    about action.

There are other series of racing all over the uk and of course will be
obligatory for you to attend a team ukrm race.

I might just do that, I could paratice my booing for Williams at this years
F1, never forgiven them for sacking Damon Hill when he was world champion.

Motogp (www.motogp.com) is full on prototypes like F1. Superbike riders who
do well (eg Troy Bayliss) move on to motogp. Motogp riders who do badly (eg
Gary Mccoy) move on to superbikes. Says it all really.

For pure racing (including sidecars) but without the crowds you can
always try the MRO championship rounds.

Pits are always open and its a very friendly atrmosphere - until they
    start racing!

As others have already said, MotoGP is the pinnacle of motorcycle racing
    but
obviously there is only the one British round.
In WSB we often get two rounds, with a UK round and a European round.
WSB is a bit 'up in the air' at the moment though.

Keep up to date with these on the web or TV, if you can. Eurosport is
    very
    good for MotoGP coverage.

For live racing, go to a round or two of the British Superbike
    Championship
    which :
    a) has a dozen or so rounds around the country per season.
    b) has two Superbike races, plus Supersport and other supporting races.
    c) has extremely close and exciting racing[1]
    d) is a bit cheaper to get into compared to the others.

Oh, and don't forget Team UKRM, which has already been mentioned.
