    Hi all

My wife has just passed her cbt and want's to get a 125 for work. She found
the cg125 a bit heavy with its centre stand so is looking for something
    similar with a side stand.

    Can anyone suggest anything

    Cheers

    <boggle>

Doesn't the CG come with a side stand?

Centre standing any bike is more of a matter of technique than grunt,
however - although there's a couple of notable exceptions that spring
    to mind.
Obviously, any of the little Japanese 125s that do have a side stand.

However - if she isn't strong enough to put a CG on a centre stand,
she isn't strong enough to pick it up when she drops it. I'd
therefore suggest she sticks to a skateboard or a Ford Ka.

Not if IIRC. It's so easy to put on the centre stand, it doesn't seem
    worth it.
    If she's done her CBT, she should have been shown the correct technique;
it's down to using your weight correctly, and practising the technique
    until you get the knack.

MMMMmmmmm lighter than a CG125, ever thought about a monkey bike?

I'd stick with the CG, they get a good write up as being bullet proof
and cheap as chips to run.
The centre stand issue is all about technique and not strength.

Can a side stand be retro-fitted? SWMBO found her first Yammy 100 a bit
tricky, but there was a bolt on side stand available for those.
Some centre stands are better designed than others. She could manage the
one on the CB250 'Nighthawk', although TBF she usually used the side
    stand on that.

    not IIRC.

They are amazingly easy to put on the centre stand though - someone
just needs to show this bloke's wife how to do it - it's not to do
    with strength.

Yeah I saw that one too, how can you drag out a sidestand manoeuvre
    that long.
Can't we just go round to Glens house and video his missus wrestling
with a CG125 and put that on Youtube instead?

Flip with all this video stuff
1 - stand at side of bike, facing in same direction as
2 - LH on the bars
3 - RH on frame (palm facing behind you)
    4 - R boot on stand
    5 - Bendy knees
6 - Lean back (and up a bit) gently by straightening legs

If this fails take the stand off and just lean the bike against the wall
    in a Cafe racer stylie.

    In
I'm fairly sure they have the same rest mounting as the CB125S had and they
had a side stand so one could indeed be retrofitted.

But honestly of she's taught how to put it on the stand properly it is
    really easy

I take your point (and Darsy's) but...
<Looks round to make sure SWMBO is not in evidence>
It's a machine innit? She is the most technophobic person I have ever
met. TBF if she had ridden it more often I am sure she would have got
the knack eventually. She is OK with karabiners and the like that she
has been using for years but new gadgets take getting used to. As to PCs
    - don't ask.

Before Lady Nina pipes up, this is not a gender thing, but a left/right
    side brain thing OK?

    No, you've whooshed me there.

Incorrect reference to the right/left hand brain stuff perhaps? By all
means enlighten me. Just trying to avoid being accused of a sweeping
statement, "females don't understand machines", attitude. But, heh this
is UKRM, I should know better.

you were about to say something like "people who think with the left hand
side of their brain have difficulty getting a cg125 onto the centre stand"
    weren't you?

Of course they would. They have to use their right foot and right
hand to get it up, right?

You may RC, but I can tell you that the Brazilian model (f'naar) does
indeed have a side stand as well as a centre stand.

If someone shows her the technique it is easy. I found it a pig at
first but you get used to it and then get a bigger bike.
    Practice.

The POS125 I did my cbt on was a simple sidestand affair but I certainly
did struggle with the GS500 being a bit on the "not bloody light side"
My Instructor cured my lack of technique with a simple "ride it down
there[1] and pop it on the centre stand"

What took somewhat longer to cure was getting it back OFF! I'm 9st and
couldn't seem to get enough weight behind the thing. We left it on the
side stand for my test. I'm happily chucking my er-5 on and off its centre
stand now and can confirm that even horribly skinny girls can do it with
practise because the engineering chaps seem to have made sure it's more
    about levers than grunt.
