  2. So frigging what?

If you pull out while staring to the left like this rider was, you aint
going to miss the car if it pulls out at the right time - regardless of
    your speed.

Odd, normally cabbies are such intelligent conversationalists...

  4. So what - how does being in the right make the smashed up bike look any
better - let alone a smashed up self.

  8. The biker stereotype is made stronger with every single post you make.

After saying that though, on the road where it really matter, I will
continue to give respect to all road users including bikes. However, I am
not in the least bit surprised why bikers get such a bad press with
    posters like you around.

Question here - if the overtaking ban benefits HGVs, why don't the drivers
choose not to overtake anyway? A self-imposed ban if you like. Then the HGVs
get the benefit, plus the car drivers can STFU whinging about it.

Because usually there is a benefit to it but in highly congested areas
such as the ones being trialled, it makes little difference as the
sheer volume of traffic means you can't hit vMax anyway. It's in those
areas where we'll see a net gain without the overtaking because we'll
be able to travel closer to vMax than currently.

You know, I often wondered what would happen if UKRD met UKRM.
    I think I got it right :)

  12. No wonder there is such hostility on the roads!

I talked safety and how the situation on the video could have been played
out better. All I got in response was critisism and flames. I can
understand members of UKRM being less than happy with the actions of other
road users, but I was miffed why they feel like attacking someone who has
done his best to be the kind of car driver they want to see on the roads.

If they respond like that on usenet, there seems little hope of the two
groups behaving better towards each other on the roads.

Therein lies the problem, too many people see those who drive an alternative
type of vehicle as some sort of different species.

    That's why I said "I have".

Even so though, many people clearly do not know how to use what they
have. I do. My car's not special, but I'll whip any chav...
"Run Up", I said Run Out... Clearly there's a difference.
Yeah, cos I is so dumb like...
    come again?
Well, firstly I drive an Automatic, so I don't need to change gear, and
in any event, my gear changes are usually pretty snappy... But I agree
with your point about motorcycles. Good for you.

    I don't own a motorcycle though.

If Im coming out of a corner, providing it is not blind, the lines are
OK, there's a clear straight road ahead and some twit's doing 40 in
front of me, I see no problem with getting a good run out of a corner to
    safely overtake the car ahead.

But there are many variables involved in overtaking safely to be summed
up so summarily in a paragraph.

I must say it looked to me like the biker being a bit pushy, and rather
    short on defensive riding.

    Best wishes all,
    Dave.
