Sometimes you know something's going to happen but just can't persuade
yourself that anyone could be that stupid. I think my last car/bike
interface was in France on the way back from a TOG tour and luckily it
was settled with a bit of hand waving and the car just nudging my
exhaust as it pulled out when I was halfway past.

Apparently the driver had indicated when I was already halfway past
and the comments from others present ranged from "you stupid ****"
through to "did that fucker really hit you?" with a spot of "I thought
you were off when the car hit you" thrown in the middle.

This was all at about 15mph in the middle of a town btw.

....and sometimes, they end up on a video.
Well then he would have had to wait a few seconds longer. He still would
have got where he was going faster than he did...
I'm not and have never been a Police Constable. There are other meanings of
'PC'. And no, 'Politically Correct' isn't it, either.

However they're still moving. And you know about it so leave earlier.

OTOH, tens of thousands of selfish cunts in single occupancy cars slow
my journey down to sub 20MPH speeds on many motorways. This next
fortnight will be bliss. I'll save half an hour each way on my run
    across the M62.
    Nope, that's the cars.
Just don't expect fresh food, national daily newspapers or next day
    deliveries.

Sounds like a nasty cold there. Over-training possibly causing your
immune system to take a hit?

Oh, I've not overtrained at all.

I've only done a little cross-training, some rowing and a few weights
this week. So I've had a really easy week, well apart from the 60-70
hours of work and the two trips to Germany.

Running again next week. Or maybe this weekend.

They're still moving and **** everyone else. Just what I expected.

Yeah, the single occupancy cars get on my nerves when I'm not driving
    one too.

Suits me fine, I buy local food where I can and read online news. Next
day deliveries don't happen for me because the dull cunts hired to drive
the delivery vans can't find my address or work a phone to get
    directions.

Well just to please you, there's some HGV overtaking ban trials in the
    pipeline.

Only downside is that, like the M42 one on the go at the mo, it
benefits us and doesn't benefit you. You've got the overtaking ban you
asked for but as car drivers on the whole are fucking useless at lane
discipline, you all stay to the right and make it worse. But because
there's a HGV overtaking ban, you have only yourselves to blame.

I'd have been doing her a favour and releasing a bit of capital from
her estate so her family could go on holiday.

A bit of a win - win situation really.

    I don't disagree with you.

However on a big bike you have the acceleration to put yourself in a
dangeroius situation far quicker than anything else on the road. Between the
car driver checking behind/blindspot, then looking forward to see if the
other lane is clear, then pulling out, the bike can (and did) go from
following behind as it had been for some time, to alongside as the car pulls
    out.

The bike has the power to put itself into danger. With that power comes
responsibility. If I suddenly started running at full tilt through a crowded
shopping centre, whose fault would it be if I hit somebody who was walking
and turned to go into a shop?

The car driver in this clip may not have been 100% observant, but are you
really saying you want to trust your life to expecting 100% perfection of
all road users, all the time?

'cos if you are, you're gonna die.

In which case you familes would have benefited from releasing the capital in
your estate, so even more people win. Apart from the old lady and you of
course, but hey, there's no gain without pain.

I would agree. The positioning on the road and blinking brake lights
would have had the 'Sausage Creature' nagging in my ear that the ****
wasn't concentrating on anything except getting past the car in front at
    the first opportunity.

I've not heard anyone describe their 'manhood' as the "Sausage Creature"
    before.

Whatever. Have you not come across such references before?

Call it what you may. There have been enough near misses over the years
to teach me to beware when a situation looks dodgy without analysing it
too much. I realise that this is a terrible admission to make on UKRM
and brands me a wimp of the first water.

I think he's referring to the 'in your ear' bit.

Oh I see. A Lozzo/Pip peno-aural interface story or Joe Orton reference.
    Most amusing.

  19. For many of those years I was a taxi driver working more than 12 hours a
day - like to comment further?

    Raymond Keattch, Mar 31, 2007
  20. Resting your case before the facts?

Now add up the miles as a taxi driver for many years, working a lot of the
time more than 12 hours per day.
