Where to trail ride in SA?

    Hi All

I haunted this group about four or five years ago when I was learning
to ride a motorbike on a circa 1980 Honda XL250S. People here helped
me sort the electrics and a few other things for which I was most
grateful. That bike had wasp nests on the cooling fins, the lights
kept blowing out, broken sprockets, etc.

I did obtain my licence but had to give the bike back. Unfortunately I
couldn't really justify purchasing a bike at the time.

Now that I've been divorced a while, :), I've arranged to take
delivery today of a new KLX250S (sticking with chook-chasers here...).

I have a few ideas, but rather than re-inventing the wheel, I was
hoping someone here could recommend some nice (legal) places to ride
not too far from Adelaide that involve unsealed surfaces - roads, fire
    tracks, goat-tracks, etc.?

    Thanks!

    Ok. Thanks!

Well, I got my *new* KLX250S (aka Chook-chaser) back home. In one
piece (both me and the bike). This during peak hour, on some of the
busiest roads around in 38 degree heat on a bike I'd never seen in the
flesh before today, after not having ridden for almost five years and
even then only to obtain a licence. So I'm pretty pleased I didn't
    kill myself :).

I did however provide entertainment for the guys in the store. I
didn't quite get my leg over the (35" high) seat and tipped the bike
over. Fortunately it was a slow drop as I had hold of most of it on
its way down. No damage. Whew. The guys in the store must have been
pissing themselves. I know they saw it because one came out with a
step ladder and offered to hold the bike. Actually I'm kidding about
the step-ladder. I'm going to be doing some stretching exercises from
now on so that this doesn't happen again.

My only other experience on a bike is on a 1980/81 XL250S. The KLX250S
is quite a step up. And so it should be, being almost 30 years newer!
It felt beautifully balanced. Unfortunately I have to keep the revs
under 4000 for the first 800km, which means I have to change gears a
lot and am not in the power band ever. But still, I'm happy with the
    purchase.

I'll get to know it a lot better over the coming long weekend :).

Just make sure you go somewhere quiet to start with mate and take it
Yes, thanks, that's the plan. I don't have a death wish. Some
relatively unused trail would be great - if nobody sees me fall off,
    then did I really fall?
