Where to start?

    I found the first was good until the end, then it dipped until about 1/4
    of the way into the second. It dipped again halfway through the third,
    meaning it was a slight effort to get it finished. Overall, I enjoyed
    it, but I think I would've liked it better if it hadn't taken me 9
    months to read[1].

    [1] was reading it student style - I.e. mate buys the four books, he
    reads one then passes it on.
