Just taken delivery of the new bike (yay!) but where to ride? Any
suggestions on where to go for a 2-4 hour cruise from Parramatta?

    Thanks

    only 2-4 hrs ?

take your choice , head north, west or south

you could head up to Mt white via the old road

if you dont stop you could do the putty loop in that time ;)

I figure I can map a longer trip out of the 'burbs but as a Sydney newbie
I'm struggling to find a quick route out of the traffic for those occasions
when you have to back to take the wife out for lunch or something.

What are the "old road" or the "putty loop"? Secret motorcycle guys'
    business? :)

    TIA

I suspect by the old road they mean....

Parra->Dural->Wisemans Ferry-> Old PAcific Highway back to Sydney

Never done the Putty loop (Must do it one day!) Sounds good! :)

Well, the Old Road is the old pacific highway, not the wisemans piece -
highway 80 something that runs parallel with the Newcastle freeway (F3)
from hornsby via berowra ish to just short of gosford
One of the 10 best day rides available out of Sydney

    For Bobra's benefit

Parramatta, Windsor, head towards Singleton on the Putty Road (there's
an intersection in Windsor(heading north west) where the roads sweeps
left to Richmond or you can go right over a bridge towards Singleton),
there's about umm, 80Km ? of sweepers which gradually tighten up, about
15Km short of Singleton there's a turnoff to Broke/Wollombi, on the
right heading north (well actually there's two, but one's easy to spot
and one is hard) just after some one horse town I have no idea of the
name of. Head towards Broke and Wollombi, according to Dave Ello
stopping at the Spotted Cow Cafe is a must. The Wollombi pub is pretty
good. Keeping heading east on this road, watch out for Lemming corner -
ie if the corner say 25 or 15 K (whichever it is) believe it :) (you're
safe going this direction - it's going the other way all the lemmings
fall off). When you get to a sign say saying wiseman's ferry (right
turn) you have a dilemma - you can go via wiseman's which is a great run
and drops you out at dural an easy run down to parramatta, or you can
keep going east and do the old pacific highway.

If you keep going east then you hit a turn off about 25Km* or so down
the road where you can turn towards Berowra - follow the signs for
highway 84 or is it 89 ? the old pacific highway anyway and you'll be
able to follow it down into Hornsby,a nice run of open to tightish
sweepers. Take the sign posting towards Galston just before you hit
Hornsby proper and head back west through galston gorge - watch those
15K corners - they really are hairpins ! You'll land back at Dural, turn
left and follow the signs back to Castle Hill / Parramatta

    JL
*any of the old hands want to add detail to that ? I always go the other
    way ie Old Rd first

You've got to get out more.. turn right at Kurrajong for a change. I live in
Melbourne and I've ridden the Putty Rd 3 times in the past 2 years.

Might get a game of cricket in too, and some rum. Only for Straights, of
course, none of that bendy stuff.
