Where to go?

I fancy a ride out tomorrow. A couple of hundred miles starting from (and
    ending up in) Shrewsbury.

Trouble is, I can't decide where to go.

Any suggestions? Some decent bendy roads without an abundance of speed
    cameras would do just nicely.

    Ta.

Do they have speed cameras in France?

That's what I usually end up doing, but it'll do if I can't come up with a
    decent alternative.

I was thinking something along the lines of:

    Shrewsbury -> A488 to Knighton -> A44 to Rhayader -> A44 to Aberystwyth ->
    A487 to Machynlleth -> Caersws -> Welshpool -> Shrewsbury

How major do those roads sound? I heard on the radio today that they'd
closed the Welshpool road due to an accident shortly after we'd passed
    through in the c*r.

Depending on your bike and the state of your mind there are some excellent
mountain roads up and down Wales. e.g. Devil's Bridge to Rhayader.
Llanidloes to Machynlleth. Abergwesyn to Tregaron.

    Ha !
Welsh police make me laugh... alot !
The ones in Pembrokeshire are the funniest fakirs EVER !
I think the only thing they learn is trafic offences.
(Let's face it, sod all else happens in Pembrokeshire to need Police
    attention)

In 3 weekends I have been told by 3 differrent policemen that my number
plate is wrong and needs to be changed.

The wrongness varied from "Illegal - No Sir it is HIGHLY ILLEGAL"
    to
"Your Number Plate is Wrong - No Sir, it's just not right is it Sir?"

    FFS !!
It is on a Car, all letters are the right hight in a very clear font no
mis-formed letters and no screws altering letters. the ONLY thing wrong
    is slight mis-spacing. R4 TSG reads R4TS G

The vehicle is parked OUTSIDE a main police station in Bristol and the
plate has been on for nearly 3 years. I have only ever been pulled in
WALES ....... (read West Wales) ! Thing that pisses me off is if it
were "Illegal" dare I say "Highly illegal" why the **** don't they give
me a MOT producer type thing. Do the fucking job or don't bother bloody
stoping me in the first place. !
    Shame the police aren't.

I bought my ex a number plate for the Rover she drives. It is J4 NYG, but
spaced J4NY G, as her name is Jane. I spaced the distance between the J,
4, N, and Y as wide as the minimum distance that the law requires for the
spacing between the 4 and the N. That way there's no problem with
    spacing.

I took the finished plates down to the local traffic HQ and asked them if
they were legal beofre fitting them to the car. They said they were fine
and happily photocopied pages from the law books that state what is and
isn't legal. The ex got pulled once by an over-zealous copper, and when
she was able to quote the appropriate passages and show diagrams that
proved he didn't have a case, he let her go with a "You're lucky this
time, but I'll have you for something one day". Jane saw to it that he
was spoken to by her mums mate, the Chief Constable.

Are you 6' or more? if so, how long does it take to get uncomfortable
    on your R1 ?

I'm swaying to an R1 from a Fazer.... Just want to see reports on the
'04 model before taking a test spin on the '03

As far as the police were concerned, as long as we didn't go under the
minimum distances set down by law, they were happy. They couldn't for the
life of them find anything relating to maximum distances, so we the
centralised the whole lot and put the G a decent distance away from the Y
as possible to make it look like it wasn't a part of the J4NY bit. A bit
    like a double space.

They did say we shouldn't attempt to make the 4 look like an A by using a
screw head, so I smudged a bit of grease there and let nature do the rest
    :)

I don't know how to keep a woman, maybe cos my head is full of useless
shite that will never make me a millionaire.
It wasn't that difficult, I just adjusted the clutch cable and chain
    tension
