I'd stick to the real bikes if I were you, the pedal powered ones are
    clearly beyond you.

    Champ says...
My biker's garage is complete now I have a mountain bike hanging
upsidedown from the rafters. It's been there a month and I haven't even
    ridden it yet.

Quite right. Push it out there, *then* get on.

Tried to email you off-group, but you didn't provide a Reply-to or
    working From address. :(

A scooter forum such as the Tscoot one might be a first port of call,
you'll get newbie scooter-friendly advice there:

Just register and announce yourself in the 'Main Entrance'.

    Ride upright! :)

Day before yesterday I had an annoying incident (it involved a blue
lighting ambulance coming along on the wrong side of the road, and
it's a long story, but I had to report to the police), anyway, while
reporting it, heard his radio go off and the voice of a PCSO "You are
going to love this one. One Honda Moped, three youths, one helmet".

Most flyers use runways to land on, at least, so I'm told.

I'd have been OK if I'd just got a little more air... like another
    five feet or so.

I was talking to a DAS man ages ago, when a pal of mine was about to embark
on a few months of motorcycle riding (in and out, he was) and he says a
rider should position his bike as if it was a car, making it necessary for
anyone wanting to overtake to go into the adjacent lane. If the rider sits
either side of centre, there's a "space" and some **** WILL try to squeeze
into it to make the overtake, forcing the rider to take evasive action.
Seems logical to me, but I've not found it much of an issue on a motorbike
coz not much passes us but I can imagine it would be on a push bike.

On reflection, I think that's a FAR better thing to tell a newbie. Obviously
the trainers and testers aren't thinking as much as they probably should be.

    Fess up then.

    anyway, while
I don't think Plod will be allowed to confiscate the helmet.

CBT is motorbike rather than pushbike, yes?

Anyway, motorbike there's only one place to be which is where the
offside wheels of the car would be on a dual carriageway (if on the
inside lane) or if in the outside lane in heavy traffic roughly where
the nearside wheels of a car would be.

Reason for the difference; if push comes to shove and I need to take
rapid evasive action I want somewhere to dive and I'd rather dive into
lane 1A than lane 2A on a dual carriageway.

On a motorway; lane 1 and 2 I'd use the car offside wheel position
(possibly slightly to the right of this to give me a better view of
potential debris etc. etc., lane 3 I'd use the car nearside wheel
position for the reason given above.

I believe so, but seeing as both are being discussed, it's a moot point,
    yes?
And what about the hard shoulder?

Steer well fucking clear of it; full of debris and only for *real*
emergency use... i.e. when the motorway is solid and there's no way to
    do 1A or 2A...

    Naturally, YMMV.
