There is always a big stink in here every time the media say something about
collisions involving motorcycles, i.e. who hit who.... but no noise after the
Following front page headline on that toilet paper we know in Melbourne as the
Herald Sun. "11-year-old driver kills man". According to all the reports on
this incident I've seen the man drowned because he was stuck inside the car
which was lying on it's roof in a creek. From all reports the 11 year old boy
was off getting help for the drowning man.

    Maybe that headline should read:-

"11 year old boy drives car and crashes, resulting in the death of the passenger."

Or did I miss an updated report that clears the boy of having driven the car?

In any event, there wasn't a motorcycle involved so carefactor nudging well down around the tinea in my toes.

  6. YES charge the kid.. that will do good to everyone

11-year-old could be charged over driving fatality
    From AAP
    14aug03

POLICE say an 11-year-old boy who was behind the wheel of a car
involved in a fatal crash could be charged with unlicensed driving.

The car plunged into a creek in Victoria's west on Tuesday night,
    drowning a 42-year-old man.
Murray Dance, from Ballarat, died when the primary school student lost
control of the car he was driving near Ballarat about 11.30pm on
    Tuesday.

Superintendent Lindsay Florence says the boy from Delacombe, whose
name hasn't been released, is yet to be interviewed by police.

Superintendent Florence says the boy -- believed to be a family friend
of Mr Dance's -- is likely to be interviewed by police in the next
    couple of days.

He says the boy could be charged with driving without a licence, if
it's established the child had been aware that what he had been doing
    was wrong.

Unfortunately helmets don't come with breathing tubes for use while drowning ....

    drowning ....

What use are they then? Did anyone consider that the seat belt would
have held him securely in his seat to ensure he didn't accidentally
float to the surface and survive.

    Seat belts save lives.

I guess you have to feel sorry for the people who died and the families who
lose their loved ones in cases like this but who in their right might
teaches their kid to drive in a $48,000 V8 SS Commodore?! My dad didn't let
me even touch his new car, I learnt and had to get around in an old Daihatsu
    Charade. I was 17 then..
And the car did well in keeping the guy in the seat. That's what all the
fancy airbags, seatbelts, crumples zones and impact beams are designed for.

Hmm.. I was allowed to drive the tractor, the automatic, and the '52
Chevy truck. Not the manual cars. Even though changing gears on the
    Chevy required far more co-ordination!

But never off the property, and we had no dams or creeks. I don't think
I ever had passengers either, even the dog passed on that!
