Audio descriptions - a real hot-topic with the blindoes at the moment.
Along with in-vision signing for deafoes, the sort that you can't turn off -
don't want them feeling "special" or "excluded" or anything.

Bizarrely, we had to push really hard to convince the deaf and blind lobby
groups that signing and audio descriptions for porn were a really stupid
    idea...

Screw all that, just use big letters, and make sure your system supports
"typing using a stick attached to your forehead"

I like the concept of a "Click here if you're a mong" button.

    heh, if only.

I'm temped to have a little icon that says on it "Click here for Deaf
users", and the only thing it does is play a sample that says "Deaf
    People Suck" or something.

exactly. I suggested we just kept the sites the way they are, and just
provided a "text only" version (real easy to do with our CMS), but
apartly that's "exclusion" because you're treating blind people as if
    they were "different".
haha - what's the International Sign Language for DVDA?

You could add a click here if you suffer from photo-sensitive epilepsy
option, then using javascript rapidly swap text and background from
black to white several times a second..

    That would be cool.

How about a "If you can't click this, you're a mong button".

Any ideas how that will affect .gov.uk sites? I've got a .gov.uk who
as a wanky Javascript menu/tab system from a previous version of our
product. We've since replaced it with a neater pure html version but
they won't change it. They don't seem to know anything about the new
    regs.

It applies to .gov.uk sites as well - if I wasn't lying around in bed
all day, that's what I would have been working on.

Good, I thought it did. Will have to get hold of the official
guidelines so I can beat them up with it.

you know, I don't - but I would have thought they're at least expected
    to be accessible-compliant.
I'll see if I can dig up the references for you.

I'm hearing rumours that they are but can't find a definitive
reference. And none of out .gov.uk clients even seem to know. Mind
you they're all bloody useless anyway.
    Nice, ta.

Er, exactly that, actually. I think they went off the idea when someone
described to them exactly what'd go on an audio description track ...
