According to the article, "Severed her leg completely" as in "cut [it]
badly below her knee". It also says the chap who applied the torniquet
"may have cost her her leg" and "saved the woman's leg" (assuming it's
the same person; it's not clear). It also quotes someone else as saying
"Maybe peices from the pressure cooker severed her leg completely".

Or maybe they didn't. What a fucking crap peice of writing.

 

A partial severance would leave the leg dangling, a complete severance
chops it all the way through.

leg. I think a leg includes the knee and thigh etc. The bit that gets

As I read it (and we have to give "journalism" its due, it's crap) the woman
was badly cut (I typed "****" there and some helpful neighbour applied a
tourniquet to stop the bleeding which apparently cut the circulation to the
point he killed the bit below the strap, saving her life but forcing the
doc's to remove her foot.

 

Perhaps I have and the article is very badly written but (at the risk of
prolonging a pointless debate), "Severed her leg completely" can be
taken to read "completely chopped through" as well as "removed the whole
leg".
