There should be one in your nearest Decathlon. They do have insulated 3
    litres backpacks.

Drinking very cold water depresses the sensation of thirst, which
obviously could lead to not drinking enough to overcome the
    dehydration.

If you're going far enough for your bum to hurt, you're going too far to
    use a poncy gel saddle.

Padded shorts, and getting used to it.

To be honest, I'd not heard of it. It's a bit uncomfortable to drink
    something very cold though.

You can get insulated bottles, and insulated hydration systems as
    well.

And padded saddles actually make it worse. Hard leather is best as
    there's less friction.

Heh. Hope it didn't have too much of an adverse effect. Presumably you
now realise that They All Do That Sir? I then mine changed over when I
bought my new bike in March, which might have been a bit of an issue,
as they're hydraulic[2] but in the event the levers turned out to be
completely reversible, so it would only have been a five-minute job.

What did you end up getting, anyway?[1]

Do they actually work? I always have to give myself a two-minute
standing break every half-an-hour or so to avoid this, so wondwer if
it might be worth giving them a try.

  13. I've been doing the same, but being a newbie its closer to 20 minutes.
Having said that, this morning I was out in 40C, so had to stop for
    water anyway.

I didn't click Ben's links, but in case they weren't what I thought,
I'm not talking about a numb bum here...

  15. It's just so instinctive now to pull the clutch in just before stopping,
I was stoppying at every junction. Anyway, I've changed them over and
re-learning to ride a pushbike. I love it. Sweat streaming down my face,
legs killing me etc. Just like being in the gym only with sunflowers to
one side and olive groves to the other.
Sitting here looking at the manual etc., it's a Orbea Tuareg. Seems to
work. Lifetime guarantee on frame and forks. Components 2 years.

One odd thing is I've already almost bottomed out the forks without
going anywhere really rough - just lumpy dirt tracks.

  16. My main problem is losing the feeling in my nads. I have a 'special'
gel seat but it still happens, although not as quickly.

Not sure if these super duper ones are any different.

  17. I have discovered that boxers aren't the best things to wear. I had to
stop a few times to re-arrange the tackle this morning. Bollocks can be
a bit of a nuisance at times.

  18. Indeed. I found a problem ever since I started driving those there
Underground trains; certain <ahem> personal bits have a habit of
bouncing about on the bouncy bits of track we have, and not awfully
comfortable either. I consequently have a whole new wardrobe of
    underwear.

They are also very useful when cycling.
