wheeling motorcycle

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by christen2000a, Oct 25, 2005.

  1. is it dangerous to wheelie a motorcycle, or does it always come down ok
when you let off the gas. but could the front wheel be in the wrong
    place and crash it?

In an ideal world the front wheel should be in the forward position
    before it touches down.

If you wish to experiment with putting the front down in different
positions please have someone standing by with a video camera and post
    the results here. Thanks.

A mate a long time ago did a wheelie, lost control sideways, fell of and his
foot peg went through his ankle with a nice crunch.

Apart from that I think that it was perfectly safe.

It should also be noted that under the harsh acceleration needed to loft
a good minger, the back wheel may catch up with the front.

Wasn't that with the caveat though that you have to be travelling East-
West and not the other way round and that West-East wheelies were the
safest ones to do for beginners?

  14. Yes; extremely dangerous. You could find yourself enjoying it so much
you keep doing it and before you know it, you've lost yourself to a
lifetime of hooliganism and grinning like a wanking chimpanzee.
The front wheel is always in the wrong place, unicycles do not have this
    problem.

Dog only knows. I gave up when they were discussing the effects of the
coriolis force and whether it was countered by the rotating shaft, and,
if it was a grey import, would it either screw itself into the ground or
launch itself like a spastic chaffinch.

I can only suggest he tries it and videos the result.
