Wheelies

  1. Ok, cue lots of coments about not being able to get it up.

But, you see, I want to learn how. I consulted an old copy of PB I had in
the bookcase so I know the 2 methods (crack the throttle wide open and hope
for the best, or open the throttle then dump the clutch.

But, I'm a scardy cat, so I'm not that good at it. Did a bit of practice
tonight and got two, very little bunny hops.

Any tips? Which method is easier?

Open the throttle faster, and wide enough that you think the bike will flip.
Then give it a bit more throttle. Closer you are to peak power the better.

    Don't do either of these!
Just accelerate in 1st until about a third of red-line, then chop the
throttle shut, then immediately open again.
If it doesn't lift (unlikely) try it again at increased revs up to about
    two thirds maximum.
If you can't get it to lift by then give up and go buy some beer!

    No, stay seated.
I don't know the f4i but if the pegs are too far forward you won't be able
to use the rear brake (and gearlever when you're good enough!) while you're
    standing.
Standing's fine if you've got really rear-set footpegs. (But even still do
    all your practicing sitting down)

Just follow my instructions and you should be able to do long floaty
    wheelies piece-of-piss!

You'd be a mug to try doing wheelies without the appropriate Hawaiian
    shirt, shorts and sandshoes!

funny, was way easier on the chookie to learn standing up, then change to seated... Maybe I'm different

Doug Domokus (SP?) did it on a Z1300!

I learned standing up too but there's a much greater handlebar-to-footpeg
distance on a chookie so you can actually "stand"!
On a roadbike you end up all doubled-up and it's very awkward... (unless
you've got very rear-set pegs or high 'bars)

Thats one reason the original style Bandit 1200 was so popular for
wheelies... stand ups were actually comfortable (like a trail bike).

Strap the slab of beer on the pillion seat, then go back and try as
    above again.

Eventually, you _have_ to get the front wheel up.... ;-)

And if it comes up too far you can always drink some of the carton to
    lighten it! LOL

    If you can't do a wheelie on a gen 1 Bandit12 you're a mug :) It's an
easier mono bike than an R1 (and let's face it they're wheelie monsters)

Hire or buy a cheap chook chaser, get the hang of it on one of them,
damage is cheaper to repair too..

Road bikes are 7 out of 10 written off if you flip them with all the
    gladwrap around them these days..

  20. is that why full fairing bike riders are more happy - glad wrap?
