Wheelies are fun

  1. Not just because they're irresponsible and impress small children but
because of the hooligans it attracts.

I was making my way to Paddington after work for a bit of shopping and
after lofting it from the lights, this 636 came zooming up behind me,
shot past and made good pace through the traffic.

Once the lights went green he hoofed a right minger and I was left in
his wake ) At the next set of lights he stoppied it and proceeded to
break the numberplate off the back. I pointed this out to him and asked
if he knew what the lottery numbers were for this week <snigger>

Anyway, we had a mad dash through the traffic, each taking the other up
and under and through the insides for about two miles down Madia vale
and Edgware Road. That's when he peeled off to go round towards
    Paddington Basin.

What a laugh. I was hideously underpowered compared to him but the
feeling of sharing a moment like that was one I haven't had since I was
    a despatcher.

    *Happy sigh*

My tip for the month involves *not* breaking your numberplate and
blowing your fork seals within a second of each other.

I'm seeing... I'm seeing a pig. And some fingers, they seem to be
clenched... And there's a clam. A hairy clam.

    Ah!

    I see a ham-fisted ****.

Which reminds me - does anyone have any ideas why I can never get
sound on youtube? Not normally an issue, and certainly not any system
setting I've been able to find. Ideas?

Alternatively, how can I download/save from youtube to play in a
    player of my choice?

    Whooooaaaa!

Now then, y'see that weave that sets in around the balance point?

    You do? Good.

Any of the wheelie gods or physicists care to enlighten me as to why
    this happens?

I've been guessing it's due to a lack of front wheel revs when lofting
from slow speeds, but watching that vid makes me think not.

Can be a number of things.

Very high and fast (usually sat-down) wheelies are prone to it. Being
too tense on the bike. Not being smooth on the throttle. Cross wind.
Crap tyre and/or road deformation. Blind panic.

Usually that side-to-side motion ends in a crash - and it's generally a
    big one.

That's certainly the scenario I've noticed it in
Hmm, maybe I do tense up a bit when it gets high. I'll make a point of
    checking.
Don't think that's my problem, but I'll bear it in mind.
The light breezes so far haven't been too much problem, but see below.
Ahh, yes, yes, and not yet.
    <Thanks lucky stars>

    Cheers Dave, useful stuff.

    Back to the crosswinds;

Is there a way to steer effectively on the back wheel? I've tried
sticking a leg and as much torso as possible out in the direction i
want to go, and added turning the front wheel in that direction. It
doesn't seem to make a great deal of difference.

I'm sure I've seen some record attempt where the bloke was going round
an oval track, although he had a drive to the front wheel which may
    have helped.

    What say you?
