Can anyone recommend someone who can re-build spooked wheels in North
    Bedfordshire area?

    Cheers

  2. Any decent bike shop I'd have imagined. Or you could do it yourself.
    It's not exactly brain surgery.

A lot of cycle shops won't take motorcycle wheels as their jigs aren't
    big enough.

If you do it yourself this may be useful

  4. True - although I was abreviating 'Motorbicycle' as 'bike'. But you
weren't to know that my dear old fellow.

  5. I'd sort of guessed you meant Motorbike wheels, something in the name
of the newsgroup gave it away.

I still say try any decent old fashioned (not M&P shite shifters) type
    'MOTOR'bike shoppe.

Try John Lee in Higham Ferrers (not beds but not far away) - 01933
    382827 (IIRC).

Hagon (as in the shock absorber people) do wheel building. Looks
    outrageously expensive IMO.

Not in Beds, but I've used Dick Waldron before and would happily
    recommend him

He's on this list under wheelbuilders

Just a thought like, but an offroad (MX) dealer might have the
facilities, or at least have access to a tame wheel rebuilder.

    There's a Scooby-Doo line in here, somewhere.

  11. Come on - he's obviously mispelled 'spocked' wheels. They've prolly
    got pointy ears.

Changing the subject somewhat. Did you ever get to to root cause of the
problems you were having with the GT?

Thinking of which, I had a codeine-inspired brainwave - have you
checked the filter inside the tank - the one that covers the outlet to
the tap, if you see what I mean?

Nope, I fitted new coils and leads yesterday, however that made no
difference so I removed and stripped the carbs completely again last
night/this morning (I am now the Uber Meister when it comes to fitting the
air box stubs back) and it is still exactly as it was before, I cannot
believe that this is an ignitor or pickup problem. I did check the
compression today and it is a bit varied (140 -130 -110 - 140) however my
tester is the wrong side of 20 years old and a bit suspect.

So it is back to scratching my head at the moment. I guess we will be
    touring Jutland on the Daytona.

I smiled when saw your posting, I have been having wine induced flashes of
inspiration all week, this normally cheers me up somewhat until I find that
the suspect item is actually OK, including filters, jets, petrol,
connections, hoses, valves, hell the only thing I haven't checked are the
    tyre pressures.

That is exactly what I wanted and I work in MK so finding it is no probs.
Now all you need to do is find me a donor GT and you have my 100% vote for
most helpful person on the 'net

Thanks - I will give him a call.

So will I. I need a set of CeeBee wheels rebuilding at some point. I
have hubs and rims, just need spokes and the rebuilding doing.

I bet you haven't checked your swinging arm bearings either. That'll
    be the problem...
